The fight against the wireworm in the garden areas

Many gardeners grow potatoes on their plots. In order to harvest a good harvest, they spend a lot of time and energy. Everything is fine if the harvest matches all your desires. And if the root crop has suffered from a wireworm, you will agree, it is unpleasant and quite problematic to clean such a root crop. Therefore, the fight against the wireworm becomes an important task for most gardeners.

Who such this wireworm? For those who do not know, this larva is a click-beetle larva. It is a small worm that has an elongated solid yellow-brown body and three pairs of legs.

Well, now let's return to the main question: "How to deal with the wireworm?" There are two ways to combat these pests - chemical and agrotechnical. When using the first method in soil, it is necessary to introduce a certain preparation, for example, Bazudin, which is capable of destroying larvae. A more gentle option is the use of ammonia water or nitrogen fertilizers that contain ammonium. The disadvantage of this method is that it is very difficult to apply on garden sites. After all, the solution must be introduced in such a way that ammonia does not evaporate. Only in this case the wireman leaves the site. Otherwise, your work will be in vain.

Struggle with wireworm agrotechnical method is more common. There are several such methods that can be used both separately and in a complex.

  • Digging up the area before the first frost. In this case, the pest's larva appears on the surface and dies from low temperatures.

  • Careful removal of grass roots. This is a favorite pest delicacy. With the complete disappearance of this plant from the site, the wireworm will go looking for her favorite food, leaving your beds.

  • Soil loosening in late spring or early summer. The struggle with the wireworm in this way leads not only to the destruction of the eggs of the beetles, but also helps to destroy the weeds of weeds.

  • Before sowing in the garden area, it is necessary to make small indentations in the soil around the perimeter, where to place the semi-peristate grass. These places must be moistened and covered with boards or film. The larvae will necessarily move to food and heat. A couple of days, grass and bugs can be collected and burned. The struggle with the wireworm by this method is quite laborious, but the result is also high here.

  • Liming of the soil. Larvae of the click beetle usually gather in an acidic medium. When planting potatoes, add lime, chopped eggshell or chalk to the soil. This will not only destroy the wireworm, but also to some extent fertilize your site.

  • Ten days before planting potatoes at a distance of about 70 centimeters, take out the grains of barley. After a while, dig out the shoots of the plant and select the larvae that will accumulate near the rhizome.

  • Before planting, the prepared wells must be poured with a light solution of potassium permanganate, about 0.5 liters per each. If it is problematic to find potassium permanganate, prepare a solution of celandine. For this, you need only 100 grams of grass and 10 liters of water. Such a solution must be made in advance, since it will take 12 hours to tincture this remedy. A similar remedy is prepared from nettle, which needs 500 grams. For tinctures from dandelions it will take 200 grams of a plant.

Wireworm and the fight against it - one of the main topics of conversation and cares of any gardener. Therefore, to effectively remove it, use several methods in a single planting season. After all, the most important thing is to achieve the desired result.

It should be noted that in those areas where beans, peas and other legumes are grown, such larvae are practically not observed. Therefore, it is desirable to add them to your seed list.
