The correct preparation of the Bordeaux liquid is the guarantee of protecting your garden!

Bordeaux liquid belongs to a class of chemicals designed to combat fungal diseases of plants. This solution is the most famous and very common among gardeners. Preparation of Bordeaux liquid is a very important operation. To make this solution correctly, you need to know and consider all its features.

Preparation of Bordeaux liquid

Take a solution of copper sulfate (blue crystals dissolved in water) and lime milk (hydrated lime, diluted in water and filtered) and mix with each other. It is very important to note that the solution of copper sulfate is slowly introduced into lime. If you do this on the contrary, then you will get a solution that will quickly precipitate and will not give the necessary protection. Proper preparation of Bordeaux liquid will give you an opaque, oily to the touch blue solution. This stable suspension can hold on to the leaves long enough and will be as effective as possible.

Be sure to check that your solution is neutral, that is, without reaction. Extra quantity of copper sulfate will give a greenish color and acid reaction. You can determine the excess by a blue litmus strip - it will turn red. And if you put a metal nail into the solution for two minutes, it will cover with red spots. Neutralize this reaction with the necessary amount of lime milk solution.

An acidic solution of Bordeaux liquid can lead to burns on the leaves and fruits of the tree. On leaves this is manifested by brown spots, especially the edges of the leaf, and on the fruits - in the form of a "mesh".

How to prepare 10 solution

You will need two non-metallic dishes. In one pour 5 liters of water and pour 100 grams of copper sulfate. So that it dissolves more quickly, preheat the water. In the second dish, in the same amount of water, dilute 100 grams of quality lime. After mixing these solutions you will get 10 liters of Bordeaux liquid.

Application

Use this solution immediately after its preparation, because as a result of long storage even for one day, its components crystallize and precipitate. Spraying should be done not in hot weather, preferably in the morning or in the evening and if there is no rain in the next few days.

Apply Bordeaux liquid for spraying all fruit and berry crops, including the vine. It will protect your garden from scab, black cancers and other diseases. Spraying in preventive measures will prevent the occurrence of pathogens.

Since the Bordeaux liquid is a poison, do not forget to take precautionary measures when spraying. A protective suit, gloves and goggles will protect you from getting a solution on your body.

The preparation of Bordeaux liquid and its use is a responsible and time-consuming task, but it will help you protect the garden from pests and keep the harvest.
