The braid of Tuzla: the apple of discord and the remnant of Eden paradise

The term "scythe" in geography means a sandy peninsula, washed by sea currents or rivers . And he must go far into the water. In this sense, the Tuzla spit completely corresponds to the definition. In fact, this is a sandy extension of the Taman Peninsula, separating the Black Sea from the Taman Bay. Tuzla is a very significant place for Russian patriots: in 1792, fighters of the Black Sea Cossack troops landed on its shore. At the beginning of the 20th century, more than a dozen Cossack farms were located on this spit. So why in 2005 Tuzla appeared in TV news as a "disputed territory"? And can we rest now?

And it all began in 1925, when local fishermen, who did not want to skate on the tip of the spit to get from one shore to another, decided to dig a canal. But the winter storm, which happened a few months later, turned the creation of people into a strait that expanded from year to year until it reached several Kilometers in width. So part of the land was formed, from all sides washed by the sea, which is officially called the "island of Kos Tuzla". Why is that? The word "scythe" refers to the washed origin of a scrap of land. By the way, on the satellite images the coastal shelf, connecting the man-made island with the Taman peninsula, is perfectly visible. Administratively, this territory belonged entirely to the Russian Federation, to be exact, the Temryuk district of the Krasnodar Territory.

In the early 40's an interesting story happened. When there were elections to local councils, the authorities of the Krasnodar Territory forgot to put the islanders on the voter lists. Disparate descendants of the Cossacks filed a complaint, in which they petitioned for the re-subordination of their small but proud island to the city council of Kerch of the Crimea peninsula. Since the country of the Soviets was already controlled by the Kremlin, the central authorities did not see any particular difference: the people of Tuzla were not asking for Turkey! That is why in January 1941 the corresponding decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR was issued, according to which the island of Kos Tuzla departed to the Crimean ASSR.

Even a schoolboy knows about further events. In 1954, Khrushchev transferred the Crimea peninsula into the subordination of the Ukrainian SSR, and in 1991 Russia and Ukraine became independent powers. Thus, through the narrow canal, once dug by fishermen and expanded by storms, it was no longer the administrative border of the two union republics, but the state cordon. However, the Kremlin used the artificiality of creating an island for political attacks. So, after the Orange Revolution, he instructed to reunite the natural integrity of the spit. Loaded with rubble trucks went to its edge and increased the length by 4 kilometers. The political consequences of this step were obvious. After all, Tuzla's braid still belongs to Russia. If the island is reunited with the mainland, it will have to become Russian. The conflict, fortunately, broke out and died down at the stage of diplomatic negotiations. Everything returned to normal: the island is Ukrainian, the process that protrudes into the sea from the mainland is Russian. And now in both territories sunbathe, bathe, fish ...

However, until now few people know how good rest on the spit. Fishing (if you want - in the estuary, you want - in the sea), untouched by the civilization of the beach ... Here is the expanse for nudists. After nearly a decade, the artificial mound gradually became part of nature: it was covered with algae and seashells. Birds nest along the coast, dolphins frolic. On Tuzla come fans of wild and romantic life in tents, although the private sector is also there. The only drawback is the strong currents, so the buoys should not be swam. Sandy and small-bore beaches beckon fans to luxuriate under the gentle rays of the southern sun. Well, since this, albeit man-made, but still an island, the sunsets are amazing. The sea surface creates a special flicker, which shrouds the island of Kos Tuzla. Photos of these paradise landscapes conquer hearts with their wild pristine beauty.
