The theater of Oleg Tabakov was born in the late 70s of the 20th century in a small basement. It was founded by Oleg Tabakov. The first troupe was composed of students of this talented actor. Today classical and modern plays are on the stage of the theater.

History of the theater

The Tabakov Theater opened in 1978 in the basement of a residential building. Oleg Pavlovich Tabakov found this room himself. The basement was damp and cluttered. The director and his actors cleaned it themselves, painted and brought to the appropriate view. The hall was very small - only ten rows. But there were a lot of people who wanted to see the performances of the theater, and therefore, to get here, it was necessary to defend a long queue. The first production of the troupe was the play "And with the spring I will return to you ..." Alexei Kazantsev.

Initially, the Theater-Studio Tabakov was called "Cellar". And then it was renamed "Tabakerka". The status of the state theater was received only in 1986. The authorities for a long time were indifferent to the new troupe that appeared in the city of Moscow, and did not support its undertakings in any way. As a result of this, his first artists Oleg Tabakov had to go to different theaters. And in 1981 he recruited a course of new students. Among them were Nadezhda Timokhina, Alexander Mokhov, Marina Zudina, Alexei Serebryakov and others. They formed the new troupe of the theater "Tabakerka". Rehearsals and shows of performances were resumed. The previous productions were restored and new ones created.

After O. Tabakov managed to attract the attention of the state and get subsidies, some of the actors who were part of the first appeal returned to the troupe. Many artists have served in the "Snuffbox" from the very beginning and still.

Over time, the word "studio" was removed from the theater logo.

And today the best students come to the troupe from the courses of Oleg Pavlovich Tabakov at the Moscow Art Theater School where he has been the rector since 1985. He teaches himself and in the process of learning reveals the most talented, who also takes to his theater. But not only their students take the head of the troupe. Alumni of other theatrical universities also serve here. Oleg Pavlovich is famous for his ability to find and uncover talents.

"Snuffbox" also collaborates with directors from outside. So, for six years Mindaugas Karbauskis worked here. His productions have won prestigious awards more than once.

Oleg Tabakov

Oleg Tabakov, whose theater is one of the most famous and famous in the country, was born in 1935 in the city of Saratov. His parents were doctors. Since childhood, Oleg Pavlovich studied in the theatrical circle at the Palace of Pioneers. He graduated from the Moscow Art Theater School, where he was one of the best students. For the first time he appeared in the cinema at the age of 20. After graduation, he became an actor at the Sovremennik Theater, in which, in 1970, he became Director. In 1973, Oleg Pavlovich founded his studio at the Palace of Pioneers. In 1986 he began teaching at GITIS, and the first students were students.

In 1978 Oleg Tabakov founded his troupe. The theater went a long way and recently celebrated its anniversary.

Since 2001, Oleg Pavlovich was appointed artistic director of the Moscow Art Theater. A.P. Chekhov. Since then, he operates two theaters.

New building

In September 2015, the new theater Tabakova - "Scene on Sukharevskaya" began its existence. Some of the plays that are already in the repertoire of the troupe have been moved here. And also several prime ministers were shown there. Among them: "Mirror over the matrimonial bed", "Waiting for the barbarians", "Nameless star".

The new Tabakov Theater was inaugurated on September 15. And in 12 days the first gathering of actors took place on this stage. The first performance, which was played in these walls - "Sailor's Silence". The director is Oleg Tabakov. Roles played: Anastasia Timushkova, Fedor Lavrov, Maria Fomina, Pavel Ilyin and others.
