SPbGMTU, formerly. LCI: address. St. Petersburg State Maritime Technical University

SPBGMTU (formerly LKI) is the only Russian university of its kind. We learn about what specialists are trained there, as well as talk about the history of the educational institution, its faculties, academic buildings and even a little bit into the student life.

Start

SPBGMTU (formerly LKI) in its original form was created in 1899 by Emperor Nicholas II. He gave only consent to the creation of the Shipbuilding Department at the Polytechnic Institute, but this marked the beginning of the establishment of the university. The educational institution trained marine engineers for the construction of hulls and mechanical vessels on a commercial basis. As soon as the specialty was opened and for a few more years the contest here was the highest.

Each course was set to teach 24 students. The first dean of the faculty was the ship engineer K. Boklevsky, who held this post until 1923. After the revolution, which happened in 1917, the institute increased the number of faculties, the number of listeners increased.

The pre-war period

Korabelka (St. Petersburg) in 1930 ceased to be a branch of the Polytechnic Institute. The shipbuilding department became the Leningrad Shipbuilding Institute. The institution moved from Sosnovka to its new neighbor, the Marti plant. The institute was located on the Pilot Street. Since shipbuilders needed a large number of the country, hundreds of students were trained at the faculties of the educational institution.

War

With the start of the Soviet-Finnish war, the inhabitants of Leningrad began to join the ski battalions to defend their home. Students SPBGMTU (shipwrights) basically got in the 100th volunteer battalion, which took an active part in the fighting. When the Second World War began, students from the shipbuilders formed a separate machine-gun artillery battalion. The militia gathered in the building of the educational institution, where they were taken without a break by the selection committee. After the primary training was completed in 1941, the task was set to construct the fortified area on the platform site at Babigon Heights. In the autumn of the same year, the fighters held the fascist division with the help of tanks and aircraft. The enemy was able to stop thanks to a tough and confident defense. However, the loss of soldiers reached 90% in personnel and 100% - in the command. Therefore, the association disappeared as a fighting unit. The same fate befell other volunteer regiments, which were quite a lot.

When the blockade of Leningrad began, SPBGMTU (formerly LKI) ceased its work. Some part of the students and teachers was evacuated to Przhevalsk. Here, the students continued training for shipbuilding. Teachers and students moved to the Nikolaev Shipbuilding Institute.

After the war

When the war ended, the shipwright (St. Petersburg) received a new rector in the person of Evgeny Tovstykh. Under his sensitive guidance, the institute was resumed and returned to life, so it was the most difficult for him. He made every effort to establish a scientific and educational base, did much to replenish the material and technical sphere. His work was the result: in 1962 the Council of Ministers adopted a resolution on the construction of a new building of the institute in Ulyanka. A little earlier, the authorities decided to demolish the building in the Lotsmanskaya street and build a laboratory building in its place. Also in 1962 a faculty was created for correspondence students. Five years later, SPBGMTU (formerly LKI) was awarded the Order of Lenin for achievements in the training of shipbuilding professionals.

It is worth noting that not all Peter's universities can boast of having received the Leningrad University in 1990 - the status of a technical university.

St. Petersburg Maritime University

However, the name "Leningrad" technical university had to be worn for a short time, because in 1992 it was renamed the St. Petersburg State Marine Technical University (SPBGMTU). The reason for this was the return to Leningrad of the name of St. Petersburg.

Faculties

I want to say that not all universities of St. Petersburg can boast of being located on the street, whose name concerns their history and main profile. But the educational institution, which is discussed in the article is located at: Lotsmanskaya Street, 3.

To date, the university has enough faculties for everyone who wants to connect their lives with the sea, and not only. It is worth noting the following faculties:

  • Ocean technology and shipbuilding;
  • Automatics and ship power engineering;
  • Marine instrument making;
  • Humanitarian and natural science education.

There is also a faculty for pre-university training and vocational guidance for youth, extrabudgetary, intermediate technical and evening-correspondence faculty. On the basis of the university there is a faculty for targeted training of personnel and professional additional education on a contract basis.

For training there is a necessary production and laboratory facilities, as well as a pool for experiments. Approximately 1 million volumes are in the educational, technical and scientific libraries of the university. Teachers regularly produce methodical works, and students are busy creating wall newspapers. Since 2005 the museum of SPBGMTU has been functioning. And until the fall of 2001 there was the Interuniversity Center for Humanitarian Education in Religious Studies.

Provides SPBYMTU hostel for its students. At the disposal of the university there are three 11-storey buildings. Dormitories have all the conditions for a comfortable stay here for students. They are provided for out-of-town students.

Shells

In total there are four buildings: "A", "U", "B" and "G". The building named "U" is located in the historic district of Ulyanka. The structure of the training laboratory lab resembles an ocean liner, which is very symbolic. The building was built in 1978. There are a large number of auditoriums, a gym and dining rooms. A student center was built behind the building, but the construction was never completed. The plans for the structure of the second building in front of the "U" building remained unrealized, and there were basins for experiments between them.

The ensemble of buildings of the educational institution also includes the buildings of hostels, which in the circles of students are called "three poplars" or "three pigs". In this building students of the 1 st and 2 nd grades study the general engineering disciplines. In the Leningrad Shipbuilding Institute, as it is sometimes called, in the buildings "A" and "B" there are basic administrative services and some faculties, as well as part of the library. In the building "G" there is only the faculty of marine instrument making. The building received its name, most likely, because it is located near the metro station "Gorkovskaya".

In addition to the academic buildings, there is a yacht club on Krestovsky Island and a rowing base. It is also worth noting the presence in SPBGMTU (shipwright) of the research base in Primorsk, Leningrad region. In the spring of 2012 the branch of the educational institution in Severodvinsk was closed.

student life

Actively acting and the main body of student government is the Student Council, which consists of 4 departments. PR department is engaged in attracting students to various activities that are conducted by the activists of the student council. The cultural-mass department organizes competitions, concerts, festivals and parties in the best clubs in St. Petersburg. The charitable department actively cooperates with a number of charity non-commercial organizations of the city. In the department of internships are engaged in conducting seminars and trainings for trainees in the student council. The student council also conducts events in the civil and cultural sphere.

There is a theater-studio "Cameo", which is a laureate of international prizes in the field of theatrical art. The theater was created in the spring of 2011, it is still active. There is a separate student council for sports education, which deals with the organization and conduct of recreational and sporting events in the university. Closely collaborates with the Department of Physical Education. It should be noted that SPBGMTU participates in the championships in the framework of the Cup of Institutes of Higher Education.
