Sightseeing in Borovsk - a story that has evolved over centuries

Russia is famous not only for its natural resources, but also for its history. In every city you can smell the antiquity, see the majestic structures and monuments, learn many interesting facts. One of these custodians of the Russian stone annals is a small town located in the Moscow region - Borovsk. Sights of this village are churches and temples, historical and modern architectural constructions, monuments and museums. Its name was given to the city by a pine forest, which surrounds it almost from all sides.

Before I start to explore the sights of Borovsk, I want to say a few words about the history of the city. The first mention of him can be read in the letter of 1358 of Ivan II Red, although historians believe that the settlement appeared much earlier, and its founders were presumably the Ryazan princes. Around the first half of the 14th century, a border fortress with wooden walls and six towers was erected on the Protva River, which was destroyed by fire in 1634. Today, on this place remained a small mound with low residential buildings. Here, the city school and the administration building are rising.

Continuing to consider the sights of Borovsk, we will move to the old part of the city, located on the right bank of Protva. In a rectangular area, some of the shopping arcades were preserved. Nearby is the Annunciation Cathedral, built in the 18th century on the site of the wooden church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. Throughout its existence, the building has been repeatedly rebuilt, as a result of which the structure has long lost its pristine appearance. Of particular interest is the iconostasis of the temple. Now in this building there is a wooden sculpture of Nicholas the Wonderworker, a sculpture from the tree of Paraskeva Pyatnitsa and an icon of the Monk Paphnutius of the Borovsky Wonderworker.

From the square walk the streets, in the architecture of which are dominated by stone merchants' mansions. Most of them are located on Moskovskaya street. Usually they continue to inspect such sights of Borovsk as temples of the era of classicism, for example the Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior on the Plains. The construction of the temple ended in the 19th century. It is a one-domed one-story church with a low bell tower and rises at the western edge of the central square. Going to the outskirts of the city, you can see the church of Boris and Gleb. The building of the church was built in 1704. Has gilded domes, which can be clearly seen from the nearby areas of the square. The beauty of this building delighted all tourists. The temple has a three-part structure, has five heads and is painted in red. In the decoration of the facade, white cornices and ornaments in the form of arches were used for contrast. The map of Borovsk with sights will help you to better navigate the location of a particular monument of antiquity. Among the magnificent buildings you can not fail to mention Borovskiy Pafnutiev Monastery, located on the Protva shore, 3 km from the city. Its foundation dates back to 1444. For the time of its existence, it was constantly being built up and reinforced. Today this building is a real gem of Russian architecture. The list of temples and monasteries can be supplemented with the Nativity of the Virgin Cathedral, built of white stone.

In the sights of Borovsk can also include more modern buildings and sculptures. The most visited is the monument to Konstantin Tsiolkovsky, who worked for 12 years in the Borovo Uyezd School. It will be interesting to visit the museum of the scientist who initiated the modern space flight, which was located in one of the apartments connected with his life and activities. Another unique monument is the chapel, the appearance of which is connected with the life of the sisters of the Sokovnins. The internal space of this structure is divided into two parts: the upper and the underground. In the dungeon, steep steps lead. Here you can see a tombstone above the grave of the ascetic.
