Sights of Poltava: photos and descriptions

Poltava is an ancient and beautiful city of Ukraine. Most residents know him thanks to Ivan Kotlyarevsky's play Natalka-Poltavka. Meanwhile, in this settlement, which went the twelfth century from the time of its foundation, a large number of cultural and historical monuments are concentrated. Despite his so respected age, Poltava still looks young. It has not squandered its perfection, and every year it becomes only more beautiful. And today the sights of Poltava are included in the list of the most visited places on the planet.

Architectural ensemble of the Round Square

Starting a tour of Poltava is, perhaps, with the Round Square and its architectural ensemble. This is one of the brightest sights of this city. The complex is in the center, so it is absolutely not difficult to get here.

The appearance of the Round Square began to form at the very beginning of the XIX century. In general, all the sights of Poltava (photo, which can be seen below) began to be installed quite a long time. And this is not surprising, given the age of the city itself. So, the architectural ensemble of the Round Square is made in the style of classicism. Patron of the building was the famous at that time Semyon Kochubei. A construction work lasted throughout the 1805-1840 period.

The ensemble of this landmark includes the following administrative institutions: the house of the vice-governor, the house of the governor-general, the Little Russian Post Office. Also here is the old-governor's house, the building of the noble assembly, the house of the provincial offices, the communications house and the building of the county-level offices. Today, all these buildings are converted to the needs of modern residents. And now they can be called so: the sights of Poltava of the XXI century.

And Kotlyarevsky is still there

Describe the sights of Poltava and Poltava region and not to mention the house museum of Ivan Kotlyarevsky, therefore, to forget the most intimate of the history of the city. After all, Poltava is impossible without Ivan Petrovich, how day can not exist without night, and the moon without the sun. These are two indivisible concepts.

So, in the Ukrainian settlement, on the Sobornaya Square there is a house-museum of the great master of the word. In this room, Kotlyarevsky spent almost all of his being. The writer created most of his literary masterpieces in this house. Among them are the famous "Natalka Poltava" and "Aeneid." True, the real estate of Ivan Petrovich could not survive until our days. But in the late 60s of the last century, according to the drawing of the no less famous Taras Shevchenko, the estate of the classic of Ukrainian literature was recreated.

Memory of another classic

Amazing Poltava! Sights, a guide to which you can buy at any kiosk, and you can use our article - this is proof. The city once hosted on its territory not only Ivan Kotlyarevsky, but also another genius of literature of Ukraine. And his name is Panas Rudchenko. Although he is known under the pseudonym Panas Mirny. In 1903-1920 he lived in one of the houses of Poltava, which today is a literary-memorial museum of P. Mirny. The first special, gifted institution gave valuable exhibits, was Alexander Rudchenko - widow of the writer. In 1940 the museum began to function. Today it boasts the presence of a memorial house of a writer, a literary exhibition exhibition, and a garden that covers an area of one and a half hectares. There are some plantations planted by Mirny himself.

Garden and park art

Places of interest in Poltava that belong to this category are the local arboretum. The area of this garden, if I may say so, occupies more than 124 hectares. During the Battle of Poltava, the territory of the modern park was occupied by an impenetrable Yakivcha forest. Most of the oaks grew here. But when the German fascists came here, it was decided to destroy this beauty.

In the spring of 1962, the foundation of the arboretum began. But its official opening was only 25 years later. So, more than 200 different kinds of bushes and trees were planted here. But over time, many plantations were destroyed by either time or human influence.

Historical heart of Poltava

You can see all the sights of the city of Poltava on Ivanova Hill. This place is the best viewport of the settlement. Here is a huge complex of outstanding architectural monuments. Here is located the symbol of the city, dating back to 1909. And its name is a white rotunda. A famous dish - dumplings, also found a refuge on Ivanova Hill. Below is the city itself and Vorskla flows, and on the hill in the neighborhood, the Krestovozdvizhensky monastery flaunts.

Come to Poltava - eat galushku

Places of interest in Poltava are not only monuments of architecture and nature, but also symbols of the city that do not relate to material attributes. Galushki are considered the pearl of local cooking. This is an original Poltava dish, which has made the city famous both for the whole of Ukraine and for the countries of the near abroad. Dumplings are a bit like dumplings, but still different from this food.

In this locality cooks cook more than a dozen varieties of dumplings. And the aforementioned monument to the dish serves as an association with well-being and wealth. The monument is a huge deep bowl, in which there is a dozen ready floured koloboks and a spoon.
