Iset River - a fish river with a dog's smell

In the Urals, many different rivers, large and very tiny, flow or start their origin. Beginning with fontanels, flowing out of swamps or lakes, they are completely different from each other. And each has its own story, its own secret, its own beauty.

One of the longest rivers in the Urals is the Iset River. Its length exceeds 600 km. The river begins in the Sverdlovsk Region and, flowing through the territory of two other regions (Kurgan and Tyumen), flows into the Tobol River. Iseti has many tributaries: Lattice, Sysert, Patrushikha, Brusyanka, Kamyshenka, Kamenka, Kanash, Sinara, Techa, Ichkina, Barnev, Ik, Miass, Mostovka, Tersyuk, Iryum. At an average depth of about 2 m, the width of the Iset makes 30 to 70 m. The flow of the river averages 2.5 m / s. Below the town of Shadrinsk, the river becomes navigable.

As to how the river Iset got its name, there is no unequivocal opinion. There are several options, the oldest of which: from the Tatar "ist", which translates as "a dog's smell." However, there are two more versions: from the Ket "fish river" ("iset set") and Vogul "a lot of fish." There are a lot of fish in Iset : dace, ruff, crucian, carp, bream, perch, tench, minnow, roach, pike perch, carp, stick, chebach, pike, ide.

The Iset River was inhabited since ancient times. Discovered by archaeologists remnants of ancient settlements suggest that the man settled here over nine thousand years ago. And till now scientists find petroglyphs, stone tools, ancient altars, arrowheads. Only in the upper part of the Iset was found more than 140 archaeological sites.

Iset was a waterway connecting Siberia with Europe. The antique coin found here is considered proof that the Iset River was one of the links of the Great Silk Road.

The Iseti basin is rich in various minerals, although over time these reserves have been depleted, and the ecology has suffered significant damage. Since ancient times, they traded in gold, and in the XIX century in the gold-bearing placer near the n. Maly Istok discovered diamonds. In addition, rubies, topazes, aquamarines, chrysoberyls, aquamarines, and also iron ore were mined here .

The banks of the Iset are unusually beautiful. There are many famous monuments of nature - basalt rocks, stone gates and caves (the most famous is Smolinskaya cave). What are only the names of the rocks: Three caves, the Dinosaur, Elephant's legs, Seven brothers, Owl, Stone pillar, etc.

Ural - a favorite place for fans of extreme sports. Climbers and water workers are very attracted to the Iset River. The threshold of the Revun (in the local - Burkan) is rightfully considered the most famous place among amateurs to float along the water on various types of boats.

Cutting a rocky rock consisting of volcanic rocks, by its complexity, Revun is estimated from the 2nd to the 5th category, depending on the water level and the category of vessels used. There are almost all local obstacles: shafts, clamps, barrels, plums. It is not without reason that it is called the Mecca of water experts, not only at the local level. Situated only 20 km from the place where the Iset River created this miracle, Kamensk-Uralsky is a major railway junction. He made the Howler accessible to extremists from other regions.

The fascinating element of stone and water, which is the threshold of the Revun, and the whole Iset river in general, attracts nature lovers. And the one who has only been here once, will certainly strive to come back here again.
