Sexually Transmitted Diseases: Classification and Prevention

Sexually transmitted diseases are called venereal diseases in medical practice . It should be noted that there are quite a few of them. However, some of such pathologies can pass from one human organism to another not only during sexual intercourse, but also through everyday attributes, skin integuments, etc.

In order to understand what sexually transmitted diseases exist, we decided to provide a classification of these abnormalities.

Classification of infectious diseases

Such infections include:

  1. Bacterial;
  2. Virus;
  3. Protozoal;
  4. Fungal;
  5. Parasitic diseases.

Of course, such fairly common diseases as nonspecific urethritis, vaginosis bacterial and colpitis candidiasis, do not refer to pathologies transmitted during sexual intercourse, but quite often they are considered in conjunction with them.

Bacterial infections

Sexually transmitted diseases are diagnosed fairly easily. However, for their treatment, sometimes it takes a lot of time and money. So, let's imagine what diseases belong to this group.

  • Inguinal granuloma. It is caused by the bacteria Calymmatobacterium granulomatis.
  • Syphilis. The patient is affected by skin, mucous membranes, some internal organs, bones and nervous system.
  • Chancroid. The causative agent is a bacterium of the Haemophilus ducreyi species.
  • Chlamydia is one of the most common sexual diseases.
  • Venereal lymphogranuloma. It is characterized by the defeat of the femoral, deep, inguinal and iliac pelvic lymph nodes.
  • Mycoplasmosis.
  • Gonorrhea. The patient is affected by the mucous membranes of the urogenital organs, and sometimes the rectum.
  • Ureaplasmosis. Infection can occur even at birth (from an infected mother).

Viral infections

Sexually transmitted diseases can sometimes lead to the death of the patient. Most of them are in this group.

  • HIV.
  • Herpes of the second type.
  • Condyloma pointed.
  • Hepatitis B.
  • Sarcoma Kaposi (malignant neoplasm of skin).
  • Human papillomavirus.
  • Cytomegalovirus.
  • Molluscum contagious (skin disease).

Protozoal infections

To such infections it is possible to attribute a disease of trichomoniasis, which is dangerous because with incorrect and untimely treatment a patient may have complications, namely infertility or pathology of pregnancy.

Fungal infections

Infectious diseases, sexually transmitted infections, do not always represent a danger only during sexual intercourse. Such diseases include candidiasis (or thrush). Most often this deviation occurs against a background of reduced immunity.

Parasitic diseases

  • Scabies (a fairly contagious cutaneous disease).
  • Ftyria or pubic louse.

Sexually Transmitted Diseases: Prevention

Prevention of these infections requires compliance with the following rules:

  1. Systematic and correct use of female and male condoms.
  2. Periodic medical examination.
  3. Regular and proper use of bactericidal agents (local).
  4. If an infection is found, special treatment should be carried out.
  5. Abstinence from promiscuous sexual life.
  6. Notify your partners of an existing disease.
  7. Mandatory vaccination against human papillomavirus and hepatitis B.
