Repair of tires by a tow: reliability, the tool, lacks

Modern factories engaged in the production of tires, have long abandoned the production of chamber automobile tires. The tubeless tire has its advantages and disadvantages, but there are more positive sides.

Most importantly - inside them there is no camera, which makes it possible to make simple repairs without disassembling the wheel itself. In addition, in some cases it can not be removed from the car, which significantly reduces the repair time and the forces expended on it.

The next advantage of such tires is the pressure that is retained in case of a slight damage to the rubber and allows you to reach the nearest workshop. Frequent situations also occur when a foreign object that has pierced the protector, clogs the hole formed. In this case, the car owner may not even notice the damage and ride on the punctured wheel, which will maintain normal pressure until the hole increases.

Disadvantages of tubeless tires

The disadvantages include the fact that with a strong impact there is a chance of depressurization of the tubeless tire. Without the special skills and tools that every master of a tire repair shop owns, it will be impossible to eliminate such a problem. If you do not have a compressor at your fingertips, which is equipped with an "air blow", all attempts to pump the wheel will be futile. The best option is to put a spare tire or a "dock".

How to find a puncture

If there is a foreign object in the tire that has caused your troubles, then you can find it without much difficulty. But it often happens that the tire loses its pressure, but there is no apparent reason. So, it's time to make a soapy solution. It is prepared quite easily.

All that is needed is a soap, detergent or shampoo, as well as a container under the water in which the wheel will fit. Immerse the tire into the solution, slowly scroll it and look where the bubbles come from.

Sealing

Once the puncture is found, you can use a special sealant, which is sold in almost every autoshop. Do not rush to remove a foreign object immediately. Use the sealant in the following sequence:

  1. Remove the cap from the valve.
  2. Connect the can.
  3. Press the sealant through the valve into the tire.
  4. Extract the object that caused the puncture.
  5. Pump the wheel.

It should be noted that the pressure inside the tire should be more than one atmosphere, otherwise the sealant will not help you. Before manipulation, the wheel must be pumped.

Remember that this type of repair is temporary. Vulcanization sealant is only enough for a hundred kilometers, but that's enough for you to get to the workshop. At the same time, it is necessary to comply with the high-speed regime, moving at a speed of no more than 60 km / h. If you go faster, the sealant can crumble, and the wheel will start to lose pressure again.

Prophylactic or repair

Preventative sealants fill tires before they puncture. The centrifugal force arising during the movement of the car contributes to its uniform distribution throughout the surface. These types of sealant are used to protect steel and polymer cord threads against possible corrosion, which often occurs as a result of rubber damage and moisture and air ingress.

In tires treated with a sealant from inside, the oxidation significantly slows down, which adversely affects the rubber composition. Having a unique chemical composition, the sealant fills the pores and the places of lamination of the tire, smoothing them. And in case of overheating of rubber - it effectively cools it.

Repair sealants are mainly sold in cylinders, in the form of aerosols. They are designed to maintain the minimum pressure inside the tire, which will be enough to get to the tire fitting.

More reliable - repair of harnesses

You can achieve greater reliability from the repair of the bus harness. Have you found a puncture in a tubeless tire, in which there are no foreign objects? Hence, it is possible to repair the tire with a tourniquet. It will take more effort than in the case of the sealant, but this method is more qualitative and provides greater strength.

Installation of a simple harness

To repair the tire with a tourniquet, it is necessary to lower the pressure (lower) the wheel to 0.5 atm. Then take the spiral awl and insert it into the puncture, passing the tire through and through, rotating clockwise in parallel. By such manipulation, the puncture site is cleared and the cord is separated, and space for the harness itself is freed. A spiral awl is not removed until a tourniquet is installed.

After cleaning and preparing the hole, we take the next tool for repairing tires with harnesses - a special installation silo. The harness is caught in the center, and then thrust into the puncture by 2/3. After fixing it, take the tool out with a sharp movement.

If all the manipulations are done correctly, then the tourniquet will securely anchor in the rubber, slipping through the eye of the awl. After making sure that there is no leakage from the puncture site, the remaining ends sticking out can be cut off. Now the wheel needs to be pumped up and installed on the car.

Having made repair of the tire by a tourniquet, it is not necessary to wait, while glue will dry up. You can continue driving immediately after installing the wheel.

Cord and rubber

Many motorists are trying to understand which strands are better for repairing tubeless tires. The most common are cord and rubber bands. We will try to learn more about them in more detail.

Cord cord was very popular, which is based on nylon fiber impregnated with butyl rubber. Such a tourniquet does not need to be pretreated with glue and is quickly installed by the method given above. With him in the set are all the tools needed in the work.

The main advantage of such repairs is simplicity and cheapness. The whole set will cost you around $ 2. The disadvantages of repairing tires with a nylon tow are the short life and damage to the cord. In a couple of months it will dry up, and the wheel will start to lower again.

Most tire fitting shops have long decided on what kind of tourniquet is better for tire repair, Giving his preference to a rubber harness with an adhesive coating. Its application is very similar to the previous one, but there are some differences.

So, during repair it is not recommended to use an awl, which is made in the form of a rasp. It does not separate cord wires, but only damages them. The sharp ends of the torn wire can damage the plait to be installed.

When repairing tires with a bundle, they spread it with special glue, which reacts with the adhesive coating. This tourniquet is the most reliable, but the absence of an intensifying patch from the inside, as well as the damaged cord, do not allow to guarantee that the wheel is not unsealed at the most inopportune moment.
