Radio is what? Principle of signal transmission

Do not convey the importance of radio in the modern world. What is it? The definition says that it is one of the methods of transmitting information over distances through electromagnetic waves. Often a word means a device itself, which was invented by the Russian scientist Popov Alexander Stepanovich in 1895. And since then it has not lost its relevance.

Step into the story

The importance of radio in a person's life can not be overemphasized. It was the device created by Russian scientists that saved hundreds of lives from the sunken "Titanic" - they managed to send a signal of salvation.

AS Popov began to conduct his experiments in the distant 1889. His invention, he based on the experiments of the German scientist Heinrich Rudolf Hertz with electric waves, during which it was possible to achieve significant sparks. In 1894 for Popov has already constructed the first device.

A little later, the radio itself appeared. This happened in 1895. Striving to strengthen the signals of electromagnetic fields, the inventor uses the phenomenon of resonance. And to register the transmitted signals, a coherer is used - a glass tube with metal filings, which was able to change its resistance. From this time begins the era of radio technology.

Principle of signal transmission

The whole modern world is based on electronic equipment, which is controlled by radio signal strength. And in order to understand what the radio is, it is necessary to understand the principles of the device.

A high-frequency carrier signal of a certain frequency is formed on the transmitting side, which is then superimposed on the information stream. There is a modulation. The radio wave streams thus combined are radiated by the transmitting antenna to the space.

Perception of the signal by the device

At a remote location, the signal sent is picked up by the radio receiving antenna. This marks the stage of processing the radio frequency signal, which occurs in stages:

  1. The oscillation of electromagnetic fields generates electric currents in the receiver.
  2. The low-power electrical power is filtered to eliminate interference and identify useful information.
  3. "Purified" signals are deciphered, detected, useful information is extracted.
  4. There is a conversion of a set of radio frequencies into a device-friendly form: sound, image, video.

In most cases, before decoding, the signal passes through a large number of devices - amplifiers, frequency converters - and also undergoes digitization and software processing. And only then we can understand the information received by the radio. This also improves the quality and perception of information.

Radio in the modern world

In the modern world, the radio has lost its popularity - for listening to music, communicating with relatives from the far edges, receiving news technology gadgets are used. But 40 years ago this device was the main source of entertainment, information. Radio in the evenings gathered around itself families, friends, collectives.

The first radio station appeared in the distant 1907 in New York. Lee De Forest created a broadcasting tower. However, the location of this radio was constantly changing. This slowed the popularity of the new entertainment tool. Ten years later, radio stations began to appear in the European countries - Czechoslovakia, Ireland, Holland. And after the 20-ies they have become widespread. And they are developing to this day.

Now Internet radio is very popular. What is it? In fact, the same broadcast music, news, but transmitted over distances through the protocols of the global network. But due to the constant development of the means of data transmission, soon such a way of broadcasting will be pushed out of our lives.
