Prayers, rites and conspiracies for the Trinity. Plots for love and wealth for the Trinity

One of the most popular holidays among people - the Day of the Holy Trinity - began to be widely celebrated in Russia since the time of St. Sergius of Radonezh. The holiday existed even earlier, but only at the beginning of the XV century, he adopted the purely Christian form that is inherent in his day. In the old days it was dominated by traditions that were preserved from paganism. But even now, many conspiracies and rituals on the Trinity are echoes of long-deceased pre-Christian times. About them is our story.

Neighborhood of paganism and Christianity

For a long time, the week preceding the Trinity holiday was called the Mermaid, or Green Christmas, which immediately suggests the ancient rituals and customs. It was the seventh after Easter, and in these days it was possible to hear equally pagan conspiracies, and prayers for the Trinity, read today. Christianity and paganism side by side. This week was a border between spring and summer, which was the reason for its other name - "Gran Week".

Our distant ancestors felt their inseparable connection with nature and perceived themselves as an integral part of it. They existed in her surroundings, and were in a vital dependence on her changeable disposition. It is not surprising that the ancient Slavs often prayed their prayers to those gods that were really palpable, and therefore more understandable. From these prayers, the well-known conspiracies for the Trinity were born.

Agricultural rituals

The Trinity festival always fell out at the beginning of summer, when the sowing season was already over, and for the future harvest it was necessary to enlist the support of those gods on whom it depended. In this regard, great importance was attached to various rituals. One of them was "walking in the house".

He concluded that women and girls went out into the field and, after examining the first shoots, arranged a meal from the traditional for this holiday fried eggs. Then, having collected full spoons of the shell, they threw them up, loudly proclaiming: "Let the rye rise as high as these spoons." The ceremony ended with a somersault on the ground and various magical cries. They say it helped a lot.

This week, rituals and conspiracies on the Trinity were widely practiced, which were supposed to save villagers from various weather disasters and prevent the destruction of the harvest. And here the fusion of paganism with Christianity manifested itself in its entirety. On the same day, they could perform Orthodox prayer services in the fields with water services and water the graves of those who died unnatural death. Especially drunkards and drowned people. It was believed that this is a reliable tool.

Spirits of ancestors

The Holy Trinity Sabbath, established by the Orthodox Church and universally celebrated today, also had a pagan color in our ancestors. This day was considered the day of meeting with the spirits of the ancestors, who should be well treated, and showing them their love and gratitude, to receive their support in all field and household work. Success in them promised prosperity, and abundance in the house. That is why it is possible to say with certainty that the present conspiracies of wealth on the Trinity were born in those ancient times. His strength was not always enough, so they turned to otherworldly people.

The ancient plots on the Trinity these days were side by side with the customs accepted in our time. For example, decorating churches and dwellings with green birch branches, and in those areas where it does not grow - with branches of mountain ash, maple or ash. But, unlike us, their ancestors burned them in ritual "bathing" fires or used as a means of a fire and a hurricane, stuck under the roof of a stable or cowshed.

Customs related to nature

It is known that there was also a very obscure custom for us, which consisted in that an old hive that had served its time hid from an owner in advance, and then was burned on the edge of the field on the day of the Trinity. Round the fire round dances took place and at the same time they sang: "A good fire - a bee swarm will be good."

Plots and rituals for the Trinity were often associated with a birch, this integral part of the holiday. According to the established tradition, young girls on this day went to the groves to curl the birch. Bind twigs, they braided them in braids, after which, connecting the two nearest trees with the tips, the pairs passed under the green arch formed. It was called "kumitsya", as it was believed that after the ritual, the couple become friends for life. Accompanied by all the songs and round dances.

Beliefs associated with rivers and lakes

With the Trinity, a ritual of divination is connected. Young girls wove wreaths from spring grasses, and walked with them to the river. The wreath fell into the water, and by the way he behaves, the future maiden's destiny was predicted. If the wreath safely stayed on the water, or even better, swam against the current, it meant a speedy wedding with your beloved and desired, and if he was drowning, then forgive your dreams of a narrowing until next year.

However, near the rivers and lakes it was necessary to keep with caution. It was not for nothing that this festive week was called Mermaid. More than once it was noticed that these days mermaids leave their favorite pools and go ashore.

Hiding in the branches of the coastal bushes, they playfully laugh and scribble luring passers, and then drag them to the river bottom. However, it was better for the girls to stay away from the water. For this reason, during the celebration of the Trinity, no one bathed - they were careful of the river evil spirits. In the forest, too, did not go one by one. There though there are no mermaids, but leshy. Another question - what is worse.

Plots for love

As you know, the holiday of the Trinity was followed by the Week of All Saints. According to the ancient Slavonic calendar, it coincided with the holidays of Kostroma and Yarila. Yaril at the eastern Slavs, in addition to being the sun, was also a kind of analogue of the Greek Eros - the god of love, and in some areas and Bacchus - the god of wine and fun. They portrayed him as a handsome young man with a wreath on his head. In general, it turned out a kind of charming lover, and even warmed by wine.

The conspiracy to love the Trinity, which in the present Christian time is completely inappropriate, is undoubtedly an echo of those rituals and magic rituals that our ancestors, the handsome Yaril, were doing everywhere. In honor of it, playful games were held, which lasted throughout the night. One of the elements was the so-called bride kidnapping. It was concluded that at a certain moment the young man had to, ahead of others, catch the one that was to his heart. Quite often such "snatches" ended with weddings, which were played in autumn after the completion of field work.

The Divine Name of Christ

To illustrate the plot of love for the Trinity, we give just one example. Those who wanted to bewitch themselves to someone were taking in the church a bunch of grass, which was covered with floor, and which thus became sanctified. This grass was put under the pillow for the night. After that, we went to bed without praying to God. Already in bed they uttered a conspiracy in which, asking for forgiveness before Christ, in a folklore and poetic form they asked Him to bewitch (in this way!) Their beloved person. From the standpoint of Orthodoxy this, like all plots on the Holy Trinity, is an unacceptable sacrilege and a grave sin.

Paganism and Christianity are incompatible

Summing up, it should be noted that magical plots and prayers for the Trinity, which are part of the festive ritual ordinance established by the Russian Orthodox Church, are incompatible things. The first can be of interest only as elements of folklore and poetry. Any appeal to otherworldly forces, not sanctified by the Grace of Jesus Christ, such as plots on the Trinity, are fatal to the human soul. In addition, they are fraught with unpredictable consequences, capable of causing irreparable harm.
