For all future visitors to the city of Larnaca: sights to see

This time we will go to the third largest city of Cyprus - Larnaca. This is a fairly large, by local standards, settlement, which has a seaport and an international airport. Trade and industry, as well as tourism, are developing well here. There is a city 70 km from the famous Limassol in the south-east of the island. The first thing that interests travelers who arrived in the city of Larnaca - the attractions that you need to have time to see in a very limited time.

The very first place to pay attention to is Finikoudes embankment, completely seated with beautiful palm trees. From the embankment, magnificent views of the sea yachts and the bay open. Here is the best local beach - Mackenzie Beach. There are a lot of beaches in the city, but this one is super! The place is well suited for those who like active recreation. There is a possibility to dive, for example, to dive to sunken ships, to take a walk on a yacht, to ride a paraglider. If you have a rest with your children, visit the amusement park.

There is specially for tourists a map of Larnaca with sights. From what is indicated on it, it is recommended to visit the Church of Panagia-Angeloktisti, the Church of St. Lazarus, the Piieridis Museum, the Al Kebir Mosque, the ancient aqueduct, and the Larnaca Fortress, used by the British as a prison. In our time it is a museum.

A very interesting sight of the city, besides natural, is the Salt Lake, located 5 kilometers from Larnaka. It, according to legend, appeared through the transformation of a man who refused to give St. Lazarus a bunch of grapes, into salt water. In winter, on the lake you can observe a beautiful picture - here live pink flamingos. On the shore is the world's most important Muslim shrine - the Hala mosque Sultan Tekke. Also nearby, on the Cross Hill, is the oldest monastery of Cyprus - a male monastery, called Stavrovouni. It is closed to tourists.

Larnaka, attractions - a little walk through the above list. The Piérides Museum is housed in a private house owned by the Pierides family. It presents the richest private collection of antiquities of the island, which were collected by five generations of the family. There is everything - from the Neolithic period to the Middle Ages. The collection of Roman glass is of special interest.

If you follow the route Cyprus - Larnaca, the sights will meet at almost every step. The history of the church of St. Lazarus, which you will surely meet on your way, is interesting. It was built over the grave of the patron of the city by order of the Emperor of Byzantium Leo the Wise (886-912). According to the legend, Jesus resurrected Lazarus, fled to the island of Aphrodite from the Jews and became here Bishop of Kition.

Studying the city of Larnaca, its attractions, one can not help but mention the place Pilgrimage of Muslims - the Hala Sultan mosque. For them, this is the main Cypriot shrine. Hala Sultan is a relative of Muhammad the prophet. Arriving in 649 in Cyprus, she fell from a mule stumbling against a stone and immediately died. It happened at the Salt Lake. Therefore, for the summer it completely dries up.

Talking about the city of Larnaca, whose attractions do not seem to end, I would like to mention the place of Kitty near the city. It houses the temple of Panagia Angeloktistos. Visit the most ancient settlement on the island, discovered on the hills near the highway Nicosia - Limassol. Do not go past the craft center of Lefkara, famous for its traditional lace and embroideries. In the same village stands the Church of the Holy Cross - an impressive building, built in the 14th century. In the sanctuary located here is a fragment of the cross from Calvary.
