Plasterboard Ceiling with Your Hands: Instructions for Beginner Builders
An important part of any repair is the installation of ceilings. This can be done with the help of various materials and technologies. Today, more and more people are gaining ceilings from plasterboard. Especially often they prefer those who want to decorate the ceiling with their own hands. This material is generally universal and is used in many construction works.
For work on the creation of ceilings, gypsum board is good because it has absolutely flat surface, and also bends well, allowing experimenting with designs and creating multi-level structures.
The ceiling of plasterboard with their own hands in the opinion of the majority of self-taught builders is a simple and relatively quickly feasible exercise. Love for this type of ceiling by home masters is due to the features of its assembly, which is based on the principle of the designer.
In order to cope with the task, it is sufficient to be able to hold a punch, a hammer and a screwdriver. By the time the installation procedure will take about a week, if this is your first ceiling and you will work alone. If with an assistant, then enough for just one or two days.
It is not necessary, however, to think that the ceiling of gypsum plasterboard with their own hands is quite elementary. With ease of operation, installation still requires the builder to apply the effort. You can define them, perhaps, even with the word "intellectual". These efforts will be required to theoretically explain the installation technology. Without such knowledge, you will certainly gather the ceiling. But at the same time you risk creating parallel to beauty and practicality a number of characteristic defects: unevenness, possible discrepancies at the seams. So, how to make a ceiling from gypsum board?
Required Tools
The ceiling from gypsum cardboard can be made with the help of such simple tools as a building level (2-2.5 meters long), a perforator, a hammer, an electric drill, metal scissors and some tools for plastering.
Mounting technology
Getting started, you need to consider that gypsum plasterboard ceilings are mounted at a certain distance from the original ceiling of the room. Therefore, the apartment will be somewhat "below". Do not forget to think over the lighting options. Typically, a classic chandelier for such ceilings is not suitable. It is better to choose ceiling lights.
Calculate the number of sheets of gypsum board and profiles required for one room. Moreover, it should be a galvanized profile, not a wooden beam. Why is it not recommended to contact the beam: it is more difficult for him to work as a layman, he is not smooth enough, and when dried, he often deforms, leading to the appearance of cracks in the ceiling.
It is better to start working with an assistant. To build a ceiling from a plasterboard with own hands to one master is not under force. Drywall sheets are very large (usually 1.2m x 2.5m) - it's inconvenient for them to handle alone. Moreover, in the case of ceiling works, the sheets will have to be lifted upwards and without it it is impossible to cope with this.
For marking the frame, it is most reliable to use the level in the laser version.
Be sure to determine the zero level before starting work. Then you can start fixing the frame, which should be as hard as possible.
After this, the carcass plating should be finished with plasterboard slabs. The gaps formed between the sheets are filled with putty.
The profile and its connections must be twisted together with self-tapping screws for metal (length 9.5 mm). Sheets of flexible board to the frame are also screwed onto self-tapping screws for metal (length 25 mm). In the case where the ceiling is performed in several levels, the profile of the second level to the profile of the first level is screwed through the gypsum board with self-cutters 35 mm long.
Finishing of plasterboard ceiling
Finishing the installation work with finishing. The ceiling needs to be patched up. For painting, you can use any paint (except lime, which is poorly adhered to gypsum cardboard). Apply it better after the primer.
Correctly mounted ceiling will serve more than one year and at the same time will not require any additional care.
