Phacelia - cultivation and care

Unsurpassed honey plant, an excellent soil enrichment agent with organic substances - all these are the properties of the phacelia. Cultivation of this culture can be carried out more than once a season. Consider this and much more.

Phacelia: the cultivation of culture is worth it

Bees adore the nectar of the flowers of the facelia. To obtain the maximum amount of honey, it is necessary to sow the crop several times in the period from April to June, or even before the onset of winter. The usual rate of sowing for phacelia is about 0.8 g of seeds, provided that between the beds the distance is 45 cm and about 1.1 g at 20-25 cm: that is, in monoculture it is 10 -12 kg per 1 ha or half of the norm Together with other herbs. Very delicious honey, obtained with phacelia. Growing of plants is necessary for many beekeepers: it is also worth noting that this is a good money. Phacelia is a medicine capable of giving honey from 150 to 250 kg per hectare of land.

Not only beekeepers are excited about this culture. Farmers and gardeners widely use already faded phacelia as a green fertilizer. They are able to enrich the soil so that you can forget about its fertilization for 2-3 years. Phacelia can grow on almost any soil, which means that an unfit soil to sow other crops in just a year can become fertile: after the plant has faded, you need to mow it and dig it in the ground. For cattle, by the way, phacelia is also very useful.

There is another positive aspect: phacelia, which can be grown on any soil, protect it from nematode formations, wind and rain erosion.

Phacelia: growing from seeds

This culture can be planted anywhere - in apiaries, in vegetable gardens, in flower beds, in fields - everywhere it will be beneficial. Phacelia seeds are obtained in an easy way. This requires plants of the earliest crops. It is worth noting that the seeds quickly crumble, as their maturation occurs unevenly. Therefore, it is necessary to cut only those inflorescences of plants that have seminal shells of brown color. Cut the bottom of the curls, where the most valuable seeds are, then put them until full maturation, then they thresh and remove various impurities. Seeds will be able to ascend even after three years.

As a piece of advice, you can say that if you need high-quality and fertile seeds of this culture, you can turn to the beekeepers for help - they probably have more than one kilogram in stock. Care for this culture is only to remove weeds. And this should be given special attention. If weeding is impossible, then it remains only to mow the weeds directly on top of the facelia. Cultivation in the rest should not be anything difficult. Plant the plant in moist soil. The most correct option is to plant in beds with a distance of 40-65 cm, then the landing rate will be within 5-6 kg per hectare. In order for the phacelia to give a good harvest and honey on soils where the fertility rate is low, it is necessary to pay great attention to fertilizers. To do this, raise the standards of phosphorus and potassium, magnesium and boron. Here is a useful plant - a phacelia!
