Periodic illness: symptomatology and treatment

Periodic illness is characterized by inflammation of the joints and internal organs, which is repeated from time to time. Usually it is inherited. Most often the disease affects the inhabitants of the Mediterranean. For the first time it is diagnosed in childhood, however, it can not be completely cured, since there are no drugs that can stop the development of the problem and its recurrence.

The cause of the disease is a genetic anomaly. It prevents the production of proteins that are able to prevent inflammation. The organism simply can not suppress them independently.

Periodic illness has such a symptomatology: pain in the chest, abdomen or muscles, a rash of red, inflammation of the joints, constipation or diarrhea, as well as high fever. And all the signs can appear suddenly and last for several days. There are no special reasons that cause inflammatory processes. A disease may not remind you of yourself for several months.

At the moment, there are no special tests (except for blood samples) that could establish the presented diagnosis. Most often, the periodic illness is determined by the symptoms, with the study of a family anamnesis. If the fever can not be completely cured, then the intensity of the symptoms can be reduced.

Periodic illness, the treatment of which does not require the patient to be hospitalized, causes many inconveniences. However, they can be eliminated with a special drug - "Colchicine". It must be taken every time the disease is exacerbated. The presented drug has a rather strong cytostatic effect. It is produced in tablets. With regard to admission, it depends on the degree of development of the disease. Some patients take it every day, and some are allowed to drink tablets less often. The disadvantage of the drug is a large number of side effects.

Periodic illness can cause quite serious complications, especially changes in the structure of joints and organs. However, they can be prevented by modern medications.

Patients who want to lead a normal life should follow certain doctor's advice. First, medical products must be taken strictly according to doctor's instructions. Do not try to drink the pill alone, this can only make you worse. Secondly, it is necessary to establish a diet. In particular, you need to eat as little fat as possible. Also, you should limit the use of those products that contain lactose.

It is very accurate to treat such a disease as the Mediterranean fever, is for women who want to become pregnant. They need to consult a therapist and a geneticist. The fact is that the doctor must adjust the scheme of taking medications, and, perhaps, replace some drugs.

The presented disease is not a fatal sentence, however, its treatment must be taken very seriously.
