"Ognevent-Basalt": features, types and methods of installation

To protect the metal systems of air ducts, smoke removal and ventilation from the effects of fire and their thermal insulation use fireproof materials. They increase the fire resistance of the metal walls of the systems, thereby holding the flame for the maximum possible time. These materials are produced in different types. Rolls or mats produce "Ognevent-Basalt", which will be discussed in this article.

Material Features

The main component of the material is a very thin basalt fiber. On top, the material is foil (laminated) with a net that can be made of metal, glass, silica or basalt fabric.

The material has a number of advantages:

• It can simultaneously serve as a layer of fire protection and thermal insulation.

• It has good sound insulation properties.

• The service life of the material is equal to the service life of the duct.

• Can be used at any time of year (under different climatic conditions).

• Not afraid of humidity.

• Resistant to vibration.

• It has a low weight, due to which it exerts minimal pressure on the bearing structures of the building.

• Not toxic, does not release harmful compounds in case of fire.

Fire-protective coating "Ognevent-Basalt" is produced in the form of rolls or mats. The length of the roll is 6 meters, and its width is 1 meter. The thickness of the mat can be from 20 to 100 millimeters. The density of the material is 35 kilograms per cubic meter. The coefficient of fire resistance depends on the temperature stored in the room.

Classification of material

Existing types of material can increase the fire resistance of air duct systems from 1 to 3 hours. This parameter is reflected already in the classification:

• "Ognevent-Basalt" EI 60 increases the fire resistance limit to 1 hour.

• EI 120 - up to 2 hours.

• EI 150 - up to 2.5 hours.

• EI 180 - up to 3 hours.

These types of material differ in thickness, which meets the specifications. The thicker the material, the higher the fire resistance limit.

So, the fire resistance limit of EI 60 reaches "Ognevent-Basalt" of 20 mm thickness. For materials EI 120, EI 150 and EI 180, the thickness of the mat is 40, 50 and 70 mm, respectively.

The marking of the material also indicates the area where it can be applied. Numbers indicate the number of sides from which it is necessary to carry out facing:

• The figure "1" - on the one hand;
• "2" - from two sides;
• "6" - from all sides.

Letters denote the material by which the coating was done:

• The letter "F" is made of aluminum foil.

• "C" - a grid of metal.

• "FS" - with foil and mesh at the same time.

• "St" is a fiberglass.

• "B" - basalt cloth.

• "K" - silica cloth.

Installation of fire protection of air ducts

Before using "Ognevent-Basalt", it is necessary to prepare air ducts. If the system is made of black steel, it must be cleaned. For this, fillers, brushes, sandpaper and other mechanical cleaning agents can be used. Further, the air ducts must be treated with "White Spirit", a solvent or any other solvent. After this, the system must be completely primed.

In those cases, if the duct system was previously primed, it should be checked and, if necessary, put in order. If the primer exfoliates, it must be removed. After that, this area is degreased and primed.

If the system is made of galvanized steel, it should not be primed. Simply clear of dust and debris. After that, it must be degreased.

After the preparation of the system, "Ognevent-Basalt" is superimposed. Fibrous material is placed on the duct and wrapped around it. It is enough for one layer of material. It is fixed by means of a metal grid, pins with washers, a band of metal wire. The fixing step is selected within 20-40 centimeters. If the duct diameter is more than 80 centimeters, the fasteners are installed at an interval of 20 centimeters. This avoids sagging.

The edges overlap (5-7 centimeters depending on the thickness of the material). If necessary, joints can be glued with aluminum tape.

Safety precautions

"Ognevent-Basalt" does not burn. It is explosion-proof. When working with this material, personal protective equipment should be used. Among them: a respirator, goggles, gloves, hand-made pastes. Work with the material is allowed only if there is good ventilation.
