Now, surveillance cameras can work not from the network, but using Wi-Fi

The energy needed to power electrical devices is everywhere - you just need to find a way to collect Wi-Fi signals and convert them to the right resource. Recently, a team from the University of Washington developed a system that allows you to collect a Wi-Fi signal from the environment and use it as an energy source for a camera that does not use batteries.

A new energy source

A new study shows that it is possible to send energy to devices using technology that is available in almost every home. The research team calls the new PoWiFi approach, which stands for "energy via Wi-Fi." This approach has already been used to energize the temperature scanner, and with it the food was received by the camera. And this is only one of the groups that work in this direction - they hope that this approach will allow us to take one more step towards what is called the "Internet of things", that is, the formation of a worldwide network similar to the Internet, but only in the real world.

Modified router

When Wi-Fi is in use, its signals are sent exclusively by beams. The team of researchers has discovered a method by which it is possible to circumvent this obstacle and create an uninterrupted flow of energy from these signals. They managed to do this by modifying the router - now it sends uninterrupted noise when the router does not interact with other devices. This noise can be collected by a special sensor developed by the researchers, and converted into electricity, which can easily charge the battery of devices. And given the fact that this noise is only transmitted when the router is not used for data transmission, it will allow using the Internet connection without any problems.
