Nikitinsky Library of Voronezh: the history of creation and life of the institution in our days

In the old days, people appreciated knowledge more than material wealth. Books were very expensive, and sometimes it was impossible to find the right edition. That is why, at the dawn of the development of writing, libraries were invented - special storage for recorded information. They exist even nowadays - it's so convenient and pleasant: to take a book of interest for a while, hold a real second-hand copy in hand and look for an answer to the question of what to read among the rows of long shelves. Nikitinsky Library of Voronezh is one of the largest and oldest in the city, it still works today.

Libraries of Voronezh

The first public library in the city was founded in 1757. The institution belonged to the seminary, its teacher and brought here the first books on a personal initiative. For a long time the library remained accessible only for seminarians and their teachers, for this reason, in 1834, the idea arose to create another book depository, this time publicly available. Since this organization was non-profit and existed at the expense of private donations, in 20 years it ceased to exist. In 1855, the inhabitants of the city again have nowhere to read books. But this problem already in 1864 solves Ivan Nikitin - the owner of the bookstore, who opened his own reading room. This is the Nikita library of Voronezh, in the people - "Nikitinka", which exists in our days.

People have always loved to read

A significant role in the fate of the public library was played by the indifferent townspeople. A significant contribution to the development of the book depository was made by: A. V. Venevitinov, MF De-Pule, V. Ya. Tulinov and A. V. Stankevich. One of the enthusiasts even singled out the premises in personal property, and the Nikita library of Voronezh finally found its home. It was a wooden outbuilding of an apartment building located at the address of the Revolution Avenue, house 30. In 1914, the collection had about 60 thousand volumes. The library at that time had several branches around the city and the region. In Soviet times the collection of books was called "the name of Ya.M. Sverdlov ". Like many other libraries in Voronezh, Nikitinka received a new building - the Revolution Avenue, house 22 (previously the governor himself lived here). In 1963, the repository of books returned the old name - on behalf of the founder. And a year later the library moved again, for the last time.
