Naryan-Mar Airport: description and history

The Naryan-Mar airport operates in the Nenets Autonomous District. This platform for the joint deployment of military and civil aircrafts belongs to the Ministry of Defense of Russia. The aerodrome belongs to the class "B". It is equipped with landing systems of the second and third category and light-signal technology. The airfield can accept YAK-42 and AN-12 aircraft, as well as lighter ones, and helicopters of any types.

History

The first airplanes started arriving at Naryan-Mar airport in 1933. The construction of the land aerodrome began in 1940. It was carried out by the people's forces, on Saturdays and Sundays. It was planned that the funds for construction would be allocated from the state in the forty-first year, but there were constant delays, which made work much more difficult. When the war began, the construction of an airfield became a priority.

As a result, the airport began to work actively at the end of the year and was added to the 772nd aviation base of the White Sea Fleet. Aircraft from Naryan-Mar conducted reconnaissance over the Arctic. The length of the runway - 900 meters, it was located at a distance of 1200 meters from the House of Soviets. In the forty-third year the construction of the airfield was continued.

The work moved very quickly. Soon drainage ditches were laid, the airfield was drained. The wetlands fell in sand and had wooden fences. A command post and a ground cover for aircraft were built. In 1950, four cabins for air services appeared at the airport.

Two years later there was a flood, after which the authorities had to build an additional hotel, an 8-apartment house and a transportation department. A shelter was created to repair aircraft and other equipment. The first aircraft landing on the airfield was AN-2. In 1955, the airport Naryan-Mar acquired a radar, which increased the audibility of aircraft to 60 kilometers. In 1956, the air force was replenished with the AN-2B.

A wooden pier on the lake was built at the airport. The modern aerodrome appeared on demand of the Ministry of Defense only in the late 1960s. First, the runway was covered with steel US stripes, then they were replaced by Soviet PAG-14.

Since 1981, the airport Naryan-Mar (board of arrival, respectively, there is) was used for passenger transportation. In 1981, an airport terminal was assigned, adapted for auxiliary services. In the summer of ninety-third year a new building was opened.

What infrastructure does Naryan-Mar have?

The airport (the schedule of flights can be found in the information service) has only one runway. Its length is 2562 meters, width - 40 m. The runway is intersected by two subterranean runways, which are intended for AN-2 aircraft and any kinds of helicopters.

Due to the characteristics of the strip, it can serve Boeing-737, Bombardir and Yak-40 aircraft. In addition to them, all the lighter aircraft are airborne. If necessary, the airport can accept TU-154 and IL-76 aircraft.
