Modern fastening strap for securing cargo
The modern realities of the world are the saving of time, money, resources and costs. And if only twenty or thirty years ago, the duties of the truck driver included only the transportation of cargo from one point to another, then truck drivers of our time already, as a rule, themselves forward their own cargoes. The concept of "expedition" includes not only the safety of goods, but also the responsibility for its integrity, safety and absence of damage.
The modern driver-forwarder is obliged to supervise the entire process of transportation, which begins and ends with loading and unloading. One of the main tasks at the same time is correctly and correctly to secure the transported luggage on the trailer of a semitrailer tractor. Invaluable assistance in this case trucker has a strap for securing cargo.
Cargo lock
You can fix the load on the trailer in different ways. The method of attachment and the type of fixation depends, as a rule, on the cargo itself and the type of trailer. In rigid vans of closed frame type, as a rule, spacers or special curtains are used. But on the platform trailers both standard and low loading put mainly straps tension.
For securing cargo, especially oversized and heavyweights, including chains. Each of these options has its advantages and disadvantages. For some types of goods only chains are used, more fragile pallets are fastened with straps. It should also be added that, for fixing the load inside the tent trailers, use is usually made of a belt for securing the load or a combined way of fixing.
What is a belt?
Belt ties are a bay of textile tape made of polyamide, polypropylene or polyester. As additional additives or other basic material, any fabric made of strong synthetic fibers can be used. On the one hand, these ties show excellent wear resistance, and on the other hand, they have sufficient elasticity to use the belt to secure the load as a reliable and safe way of fixing the transported utensils. With their help, they carry out both commercial and industrial transportation of various types of goods, for example: building materials, lumber, rolled metal, loose goods in bags, furniture, equipment, insulating glass, building structures, prefabricated pallets, machinery and household appliances.
Characteristics
Each belt for securing cargo is selected by the driver-forwarder on the basis of two main characteristics: its length and the limit of the applied load. Screeds also differ in width of the tape, due to the presence (absence) of the tensioning mechanism and its type. The standard length of the tape is six, eight, ten or twelve meters. Breaking load on such a shrink strap for securing the load does not exceed 20 thousand kgs, and the width of the tape is in the standard from 25 to 150 mm. Some trading companies sell such tapes in coils of length 50, 100, 200 m and more. This option is suitable in case of securing the load along the length of the trailer (or semi-trailer) or for replacing worn belts, but with attachments that are still suitable for service and tightening mechanisms.
Belt Tightening
However, simply tying the goods with a belt is not enough. First, the driver-forwarder needs to think carefully about the scheme of the binding of the transported luggage. Here you need to consider different factors. In case of sudden braking, the cargo should not break forward and break through the cab of the tractor, and on the ascent - move to the next vehicle. When driving on uneven asphalt or rough terrain, it is necessary to keep the load from any longitudinal and transverse displacement. And still there are non-standard transportations and cargoes with the displaced centers of gravity.
Secondly, the driver must tighten the straps so that the cargo is firmly fixed in place, eliminating its potential displacement. And here mechanisms for a belt of fastening of a cargo come to the aid.
Stretching devices
There are not many options here. You can tighten the straps with your hands, using muscle strength. In this case, they are fixed on the end fasteners, i.e. rings and hooks to the sides, trawls, and also to any other surfaces of the trailer. This type of fastening is suitable for light loads, and their transportation should be carried out on a tilt platform or on a rigid trailer-van to avoid tipping the cargo itself to the roadway.
However, the bulk of the transported goods flow is fixed to straps for securing cargo with a tension mechanism. As a rule, this device is a ratchet type with mechanical protection against unlocking, more commonly known as "ratchet" or "ratchet". Less popular winch and chain tensioners are practically not used.
Versatility of belts
At the moment, the tension strap for securing cargo with a mechanical ratchet-type tensioner is the most popular way of fixing the transported load. In addition to the drivers of heavy vehicles, they are often used by car owners when transporting bulky goods in the open way, usually on the roof rack.
Drivers-truckers are also happy to use this type of fastening of transported goods. Belts securely and reliably fix the load, while delicately crimping the load from all sides, causing minimal damage to the package. They are resistant to the effects of technical fluids, such as oil, gasoline, kerosene, various ethylene glycol antifreeze and other chemicals. Modern belts allow you to keep quite high stresses on the break and do not change its original length when wet or freeze, which makes it possible to use them at any time of the year and under different weather conditions.
