Medals of internationalist soldiers: in modern Russia and in the Soviet Union

A badge of distinction "The Soldier-Internationalist" was awarded to servicemen of the USSR Armed Forces for assistance to the peoples of the fraternal republics and states. The tradition of awarding this medal is supported by modern Russia.

Medal to the warrior-internationalist of the USSR

This breastplate was established on December 28, 1988. It was intended for servicemen of the USSR Armed Forces, awarded with the Diploma "For the performance of the international debt", which was presented by the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the state.

  • Cambodia - 1970;
  • Bangladesh - 1972-1973;
  • Laos - a series of conflicts between 1960-1970;
  • Lebanon and Syria - 1982.

Description of appearance

Medals soldier-internationalists were minted according to the drawing of AB Zhuk. The award was attached to a shoe wrapped in scarlet moire ribbon.

She was in the form of a red five-pointed star on a white curb, located on the background of a laurel wreath. In the center there is a symbolic blue globe, and on its background - a strong handshake. A two-dimensional image of the planet is enveloped by a golden ribbon with the inscription "Warrior-Internationalist". In the lower half of it there was a shield with the text "USSR".

Awards to Russian soldiers-internationalists

  1. "Memory of soldiers of local conflicts" (RF). Two-sided sign: on one side there is a man and woman on the background of the globe, on the second - schematic mountains and emblem of the Airborne Forces. Local conflicts include Dagestan (1999) and Ossetian-Ingush (1992).
  2. Award of the Russian Federation "For participation in the peacekeeping mission in Nagorno-Karabakh". The medal was issued to peacekeepers who settled the conflict in the late eighties. On one side of it is the words "Law: Excerpt: Honor", on the other - a schematic map of the area, an anti-aircraft gun and a tank.
  3. Award "For participation in hostilities in Tajikistan." On the front side there are mountains, a helicopter, an armored personnel carrier, seven asterisks located in an arc. On the back - the inscription "Tajikistan" and the date of the conflict.

Awards to participants of the military operation in the DRA

For the Soviet participants in the war in Afghanistan, the following memorable signs were minted:

  1. "Veteran Internationalist Airborne." A reward for paratroopers participating in a military operation in the DRA. On one side is the airborne emblem on the background of a red five-pointed star, on the other - the phrase "No one but us!".
  2. Medal with the title "Veteran of the war in Afghanistan." The red five-pointed star, in the center of which is a schematic map of the DRA, framed by a ribbon with the inscription "Veteran of the Afghan War". Under it - the years of military operations.
  3. The Order is called "Afghan Glory." First of all, it was intended for those serving in the USSV in Afghanistan. It is a silvery five-pointed star, in the center of which the flags of the USSR and the DRA, the inscription "Afghan glory." On the back - "Participant of the war in Afghanistan."
  4. Award "15 years of withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan." On the front side of the memorial sign is a border pillar, an armored personnel carrier with military men, a bridge across the Amu Darya, on the rear - the date of withdrawal of troops.
  5. "For courage and courage." On the front side - mountains and two military helicopters, on the back - a cartridge and a tulip, which is a symbol of the war in the Republic of Afghanistan.
  6. Award for veterans "15 years of withdrawal of Soviet troops from the DRA." Handed the participants of military operations in Afghanistan, who invested a lot of energy in the development of the veterans' movement of this war. The image on it is similar to that described in clause 4.
  7. "Decade of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan" - was given to Belarusian citizens who participated in the war. The officer and the rank-and-file are depicted on the background of mountains, flying helicopters and dates of military conflict.
  8. Medal of Honor". It was presented with a special courage in the military operation. It depicts a tank, military aircraft, a mountain range, an inscription on the dialect of Pashto "For Valor".
  9. Order of the State of Afghanistan "Star" of three degrees. The award was given for inimitable courage, the conduct of operations, as a result of which the enemy was defeated, the activities to significantly increase the fighting capacity of the Armed Forces of the country. The star of the third degree has a silvery surface, the first is golden, and the second is combined. In its center is the coat of arms of the Republic of Afghanistan.
  10. Medal "To the soldier-internationalist from the grateful Afghan people". In the foreground flags of the USSR and DRA, mountains, sun, laurel branch. On the reverse side - the above inscription in Russian and Pashto. The veterans themselves called the award "Thank you for going."

Medals of internationalist soldiers are represented in considerable variety. The overwhelming part of them is intended for veterans of the Afghan war.
