House of the actor on the Arbat: history and modernity

Today, for the theatrical community, there is an Actor's House on the Arbat. This is a kind of club where people of the theater meet and talk. He has a long and not always a happy history. The central house of the actor on the Arbat was formed by Alexander Moiseevich Eskin in 1937. He was supported by many prominent figures of the theater. Initially, it was conceived as an informal club for meetings and communication between artists. For these purposes, the government of the USSR allocated and transferred a building on Tverskaya Street in house No. 16. It housed a large concert hall (it's also a cinema hall), a restaurant, a cafe, many staff offices and cozy zalchikov for creative evenings. Even in a very restrained Stalinist time, there was an atmosphere of relaxed, wit and creativity.

Club of freedom and creativity

The atmosphere of free-thinking, games and humor quickly formed into skits, in which Rostislav Plyatt, Rina Zelenaya, Maria Mironova and many other legendary actors participated with pleasure. In 1964, the actor's house was given the name of the great actress Alexandra Yablochkina, since she was not only the "ruler of hearts" on the stage, but she also headed the central and Moscow department of the theatrical society for a long time. Alexander Eskin since the opening of the House of Actor and until his death in 1985 was his permanent director. Besides him, always at the House were public directors: Mikhail Zharov, Evgeny Leonov, Nikolay Ozerov and others. As head of the CDA, her father was replaced by Margarita Eskina.

The fire of 1991 and the period of timelessness

Dashing 90's did not bypass the creative environment. In February 1991, the actor's house was Set on fire and completely out of order. Almost two years the theatrical community did not have a shelter, until almost two years later the Ministry of Culture sheltered it in its building in the Old Arbat. Since then, the House of Actor on the Arbat is known. As soon as the employees settled in the room, the rooms were barely decorated and meetings began, as claims arose about the transfer of the building to other hands: Rossvyazokhrankultura decided to place its own apparatus in most of the building. The decree of the President of Russia Boris Yeltsin on the transfer of the building on Old Arbat to the gratuitous use of the CDA did not resolve the situation. The decree was not adopted for execution by the Rossvyazokhrankultura.

New house in Arbat: times of formation in new conditions

The house of the actor on the Arbat has withstood all external attacks, but the intensive creative life did not stop inside: the country changed, foundations changed. Not only new types of art were needed, but in the hard times it was necessary to support the veterans of the stage and help the formation of promising young people. The house of the actor on the Arbat was supported by many famous creative people, the speaker of the Federation Council Sergei Mironov and President Dmitry Medvedev. Rossvyazokhrankultura was abolished, and the claims were annulled. Since then, life in the House of Actor has been proceeding smoothly, and a stable opportunity has been created to continue the traditions of the Soviet theater and create their own, new ones. Margarita Eskina still leads the CDA.

Meeting place: Arbat, 35, House of actor

Today, for the members of the theatrical community, there is no question of where to meet. The place is well known and dear to everyone: Arbat, 35, House of the actor. Here, obligatory skits are held for the opening of the season and for the birthday - February 14. The house of the actor on Arbat constantly meets foreign colleagues and holds various concerts. There is a restaurant in the CDA, where, by prior request, you can celebrate a mere mortal. But the main thing is that the House remains the focus of creative people, and a lot of interesting projects were born in its walls that delight the spectators of Moscow and Russia. The visiting workers of the theater always come to the CDA, because where, as not here, one can meet with many colleagues at once.
