A masterpiece about the life of gangsters

The film "Nice Guys". Plot

Young Henry adored gangsters from his youth. In his dreams, he wanted to become as steep as he was: wearing expensive clothes, riding in good cars and enjoying respect, which would become a reverence. And to realize his childhood dream, a young guy starts working as an assistant with one of the bandits. And even though Hill Henry performs his tasks slowly, he climbs the ladder of the hierarchy. Each time, he is entrusted with new and more important assignments.

After a while, the main character draws attention to Paul Cicero, who introduces him to the thief Jimmy Conway. In turn, Jimmy introduces Henry Hill to Tommy DeVito. And it would seem that there is no interference on the criminal way of Henry, but quite unexpectedly he is arrested for illegally selling the goods. During the interrogations, the protagonist did not pass anybody, thanks to which he received universal respect.

And soon Henry becomes a real gangster. He starts working with Tommy and Jimmy, with whom he turns all sorts of scams. The main character marries and starts a family. But, as one would expect, his family happiness is hampered by the representatives of the law: Henry Hill is again sent to prison, where he begins to engage in drug trafficking.

Crucial moment

But drugs, as for many gangsters, became for Henry Hill the end of his criminal career. After the main character was released, he again began to turn back the old cases. But soon he had new troubles due to the fact that he could not be accepted into the "family." When Henry and Jimmy learn that their partner Tommy will be taken to the "family", he is soon killed. But there are no friendly relations between the two partners. Henry decides to sell drugs seriously in spite of the will of his boss.

Very soon the main character is again arrested. During the investigation, he was released on bail, but now no one is happy. Henry's wife gives him some money and drives him away, and Jimmy wants to kill his old friend altogether. Realizing this, the protagonist hands over his "friends" to the police and with his wife forever disappears under a different name.

Film "Glorious Guys". Feedback and perception

This film was well received by almost all famous movie critics. Many of them put this film on the first place among the best works of the year. The ribbon "Glorious Guys" (1990) after the release of the movie became a recognized classic of movies about gangsters and an ideal model of the director's work.

Jonathan Rozembaum himself said that the film "Glorious Guys", about which almost all positive reviews, is the most exquisite film that Scorsese used to put his hand. Abel Glenn is confident that this attractive, stylish and very cruel picture remains Scorsese's best work so far. In many newspapers there were articles that said that the movie "Glorious Guys" makes you believe that this is really happening.

As we said above, the film "Glorious Guys" is based on real events. The director himself was so fascinated by the book, on the motives of which the film was shot, that he was interested in all the details that occur in the lives of criminals. To film the story of Henry, Scorsese sent a letter to the writer. He, not believing his eyes, threw it away, thinking that this someone's joke. Scorsese, without waiting for an answer, had to go to the writer himself. The author of the book admitted to the director that he did not expect such a development of events at all.
