TravelsTips for tourists

Main Attractions of Egypt

The amazing country of the pharaohs today captivates the hearts of tourists just like travelers hundreds and even thousands of years ago. And now, when scientists have almost thoroughly studied the Egyptian monuments of architecture, tourists are still in a hurry to see everything with their own eyes. Everyone who has visited Egypt gets the impression of a secret hidden here, something sacred and unimaginably ancient, guessing behind the walls of cities and in the strict outline of the towering pyramids. Thanks to the efforts of ancient architects, many local buildings have survived surprisingly well, which allows you to fully plunge into the atmosphere of the past and imagine the life of people who once lived here. Particularly impressive are the temple complexes - this priceless historical heritage deserves special attention.

The sights of Egypt are numerous and varied. Among them there are quite modern, but from no less interesting places, such as the resort area "Naama Bay" or the giant nature reserve Ras Mohammed, where you can see all the rich diversity of the local underwater fauna. But the main attractions of Egypt - is primarily its unique pyramids, which are preserved here a great many. The historical component is the main factor, because of which the majority of tourists so eagerly desire to set foot on the land of the pharaohs. Excursions in Egypt almost never do without visiting at least one of the complexes of the pyramids. This is understandable, because otherwise the impressions received from the trip will be incomplete.

Attractions of Ancient Egypt

Mount of Law (Sinai Mountain). In the religious treatises it is said that exactly here, at the top of this mountain, the prophet Moses received from the Lord the tablets with the ten main commandments. Its height reaches 2285 meters. You can reach the top along two paths, one of which is short, but difficult to overcome, and the other is long, but much less steep. Both paths are connected at the top.

Here stands the chapel of St. Catherine, and behind it opens the path to the stairs leading to the very top. The latter is cut down by monks right in the rock and has exactly 3,400 steps. Conscientious pilgrims prefer to cross it on foot, although it is permitted to climb upstairs and on a camel. The journey begins nightly, when travelers from all over the world go upstairs to meet the dawn at the very top.

The Great Sphinx. If we talk about the most recognizable landmarks of Egypt, then it is he who comes to mind first. This unique architectural monument looks like a lion with a human head. Like many buildings of its era, the Sphinx is cut from a solid rock. At present, it is almost impossible to examine the features of his face, but it is believed that they had a resemblance to the brother of Cheops, Pharaoh Hefren. The grandiose statue belongs to the ensemble of the pyramids of Giza, which also includes the three highest pyramids of Egypt (Cheops, Khafre and Mikerin).

The Cairo Museum. Here, most of the ancient discoveries that were ever discovered are stored here. This repository of rarities has no analogues in the world, because even the "junior" exhibits on display are more than two thousand years old.

Temples of Abu Simbel. Built by the order of Pharaoh Ramses II, this temple complex includes a large temple, four majestic statues with a height of about 20 meters, and many smaller sculptures. The four depicts the pharaoh himself, and the smaller figures - his approximate and children. The temple was built in honor of the great victory of the Egyptians over their enemies the Hittites.

Luxor. Under this name lies a whole city, located on the right bank of the Nile. It was here in ancient times was the capital of Ancient Egypt, most known under the name of Thebes or, as the Egyptians themselves called it, Wauset. Luxor is the world center of archeology, its territory contains numerous samples of ancient architecture, divided into "City of the Living" (houses of local citizens) and "City of the Dead" (necropolis, temples and residence of the kings).

Of course, the sights of Egypt mentioned in this article are just fragments in the bright mosaic of this mysterious country. It would be unfair not to mention the Roman Ancient Theater and the Fort "Kai-Bay", the Color Canyon, the Royal Palace of Montaz in the former Alexandria and the Statue of the Scarab Scarab in the Karnak complex.
