List of cities in the Kemerovo Region by number

One of the subjects of the Russian Federation, which is part of the Siberian Federal District, is the Kemerovo Region. The area of the region is 95 thousand km 2 , on this indicator it occupies 34 place, and on a population size - 17. It has 2.7 million inhabitants. In the list of cities in the Kemerovo Region, in addition to the regional center, there are 19 administrative-territorial units. The basic population is urban, its share in 2017 was 85%. According to statistics, this is one of the areas where most people live outside the Urals, i.e. in the Asian part of the country.

Before making a list of cities, it should be said about the main city of the region - Kemerovo, where about 550 thousand people live.

It is not a very large city in Russia, it occupies the 50th place in the area, it is located in the south of the region on the banks of the rivers Tom and Iskitimka. In the last century, the coal industry was actively developing, today it was supplemented by chemical, food and light industries, and medium and small businesses are developing well.

Cities are completely different both in terms of population, density, and history of creation. Some of them emerged in the XVII century, such as Novokuznetsk or Mariinsk, others - only in the middle of the last century, like Berezovsky or Kaltan. But most often the cities of the Kemerovo region or another region are compared in numbers.

The most populous, of course, is the administrative center - Kemerovo. Next comes Novokuznetsk, where almost the same number lives, 550 thousand people, and the next city - the young Mezhdurechensk, which arose in 1946. Here lives less than 100 thousand people, to be exact - 98 thousand for 2016.

Large and small cities

The largest cities of the Kemerovo region from the list are the same ones listed above. However, there is an exception: in the city of Yugra, 81 thousand people live, but in the area it is one of the smallest cities.

The smallest in population are the cities of Guryevsk and Tashtagol, where 28 thousand people live, as well as the city of Kaltan with a population of 21 thousand, and the smallest - Salair, where only 7 thousand people live, despite the fact that the settlement was established in 1626 .
