Knitted stitch in knitting: types and proper execution

A ready-made knit article looks neat only if the rules are correctly followed. Their list includes the assembly of canvases. The choice of the necessary connecting seam directly depends on the thickness of the yarn and the pattern of the product.

Horizontal knitted seam ("loop to loop")

Ideal for connecting parts made with hosiery. Without violating the structure of the material, it retains its elasticity. In order to keep the loops loose during work, the sheet lay freely, several rows of additional strings are fastened along its edge, after which it is stripped off. Additional rows are disbanded before stitching.

We perform a horizontal knit stitch in knitting:

  • From the wrong side in the direction from the bottom up, insert the needle into the 1st loop of the lower row;
  • From the front to the wrong side, the needle is directed to the first loop of the upper row (from top to bottom), and from the bottom up to the second loop of the upper row;
  • Insert the needle from top to bottom from the front to the wrong side into the 1st loop of the bottom row and output from the bottom up into the 2nd loop of the bottom row;
  • Again we enter the instrument from the top down into the 2nd loop of the upper row, and we need to output it to the next loop next to it, from the bottom upwards.

Then we sew together in the same way.

Hinges should be the same size as in the main canvas, do not tighten the thread - and get an inconspicuous seam.

The horizontal knitted seam is good for assembling products connected by a pattern of elastic 1 x 1. And it is done this way: first only sew the front loops on one side of the fabric, then turn it inside out and repeat the process.

The horizontal seam is also used to connect the open longitudinal loops with the edge tabs of the transverse cloths (when sewing sleeves). For this:

  • The sleeve is pinned with pins to the product, aligning the intended middle of the part with the shoulder seam;
  • Start the assembly from the right edge on the front side;
  • In the open hinges of the sleeves, the needle is inserted and the arches of the main web following the edge are inserted.

Vertical knitting stitch in knitting

It is often called "mattress". It is used, as a rule, to connect the parts along the edges of the knitted fabric, it is executed on the front side. Before assembly, the product does not need to be sheared or smeared.

Each edge loop combines two tied rows, two cross strands approach it. It is necessary to sew consistently, connecting one row to another, not missing a single thread. The needle works from right to left. When stitching the fabric knitted with the front loops, the needle is inserted from below upwards under the first of these two cross threads at the detail on the right, then under the first of the two threads at the loop of the left part. Then the needle is inserted under the second loop thread of the detail on the right and also under the second thread at the edge of the part on the left.

In case the yarn is thick, or different loops approach the seam on both sides, the needle must be inserted under the broach between the edge and adjacent loops alternately, then on the right, then on the left. Such a seam turns out to be a little flat and barely noticeable.

Knitting stitch in knitting. Tricks and Secrets

When stitching products it is recommended to use yarn, which is connected with the cloth. In the event that the thread used fantasy or with a long pile, you need to choose the most suitable color option. Start the seam better with the remaining end of the thread, even if it is short: this will ensure a smooth and accurate edge of the product. To prevent the thread from attaching parts (additional unnecessary nodules will spoil the whole picture), its length should be 3.5 times larger than the width of the blade on the spoke.

The effort and practice will help you make the perfect invisible knitted suture in knitting.
