Katniss Everdin is a fictional character and the main character of the trilogy "Hunger Games"

Katniss Everdin is the main character of the cult trilogy of the famous American writer S. Collins "Hunger Games". The girl was immediately included in the list of the most popular heroines, not only in the world literature, but also in cinematography. A strong character, strong will and dedication allowed her to overcome all obstacles arranged by the government of the Capitol, and with honor to come out of terrible trials with the help of friends.

Brief description of the trilogy

Katniss Everdin is a fictional character of books devoted to the fantastic conditional world of Panem, which is located on the territory of North America. Books were published in 2008-2010 and immediately became bestsellers in the world literary market. For two years, novels were among the top-selling works of the year. The ideological basis of the plot was the mythical ideas about Theseus and Minotaur, modern entertaining programs in the show format, as well as military themes. The combination of the last two elements became the most original part of the works: the struggle for survival, reminiscent of a real war, taking place in the form of a game, became the main engine of the plot. The popularity of the trilogy increased after the release on the world screens of the trilogy of the same name, which became one of the famous franchises in the genre of fantasy.

A family

Katniss Everdeen lived in a fictional place in 12th district, in the fantastic, extra-historic city of Panem. It was a coal mining district, the main part of whose inhabitants worked in mines. The father of the protagonist was also a worker. The girl was strongly attached to him. Together they hunted in the local forest, and the parent trained her to recognize the various plants and swim in a small pond. However, he died in the explosion of a coal mine, when the heroine was only 11 years old, and this terrible tragedy was a blow to her psyche. For a long time she had nightmares, in which she again experienced the death of her father. Katniss Everdeen had her younger sister Primrose, who was very fond of and for the sake of which she volunteered to participate in the games of the Capitol. The mother of the girl after the death of her husband fell into a depression, from which she could not recover, could not work and provide for her daughters, so the heroine had to take it upon herself. She did not like her mother for being weak, but she did care for her.

Work and friends

To at least somehow support the family, Katniss Everdin initially collected the remains of food in garbage dumps. Once the baker's wife noticed her and began to drive the girl away, but her son Pete regretted the orphan and began to give her bread. So they made friends. After a while, the heroine, remembering her skills, decided to get food hunting. She masterfully owned an onion, she knew how to find the right plants. The girl was selling most of the booty in the local black market. Once she met Gail, who also hunted in the same forest. Since then, they started working together. After a while, the young man fell in love with her, but he hid his feelings.

Character

Katniss Everdin, Pete took part in the "hunger games" organized by the government of the Capitol. In the course of overcoming the tests, the girl showed an extraordinary mind, strong will, smartness, endurance and remarkable physical strength, which not only rescued her in difficult circumstances. Many critics noted that the success of the work is largely due to the originality of the image of the heroine, which is the main ideological burden of the whole work. Kit is an integral nature, which is proved by her next statement: "What I feel belongs to me alone." She is reserved, closed by nature, but open to communication and friendship.

Thus, the main engine of the story was not so much the adventures that occurred with the characters, but the very Katniss Everdin herself. Actress D. Lawrence, successfully embodied on the screen her image, very accurately and truthfully conveyed the outstanding nature of the girl.

Appearance

The heroine also has a very colorful appearance. At first glance, it looks like the inhabitants of its district: it has dark curly hair, braided in a braid, gray eyes and olive skin. However, her face reflects the inherent psychological traits of her character: strength, will, courage. In this respect, among the other heroes of the novel, Katniss Everdeen stands out prominently. Actress Lawrence externally perfectly approached this role. The writer herself admitted that the girl was able to fully convey the image of the heroine. A distinctive character of the heroine is a pin in the form of a joke-mockingbird given to her by her best friend. Subsequently, this image became a symbol of resistance.

Participation in the show

Katniss Everdin from the movie "Hunger Games" goes through a series of heavy tests, arranged by showmen. In this she was helped by the acquired skills received from her father. In addition, she took advantage of the advice of Haymitch, who became her mentor and friend. He was the only survivor from the 12th district and used his experience to help young participants. Throughout the show, the heroine left the group, which pursued her literally on the heels. One of the most famous moments is the scene in the forest, during which the girl managed to neutralize her pursuers with the help of cunning. In this it helped a local girl, who soon died. In the end, Kitiniss and Pete survived, and they had to fight, so both decided to eat poisonous berries to avoid a direct collision. However, the government of the Capitol could not allow the death of the participants, so they declared them both winners.

The leader of the uprising

After winning games Katniss became a true symbol of the uprising of the districts against the authorities. At first, the government decided to use its influence and authority in order to prevent the revolution. For some time the girl was forced to maneuver between the opposing sides, trying to avoid bloodshed, but soon became the leader of the uprising. Katniss Everdeen, whose quotes prove her strength of will and courage, inspired her own example of the residents to revolt. The fact that she was always ready to fight, says her next statement: "The hardest thing is to find courage in yourself."

The revolution ended in the victory of the insurgents, the Capitol was destroyed, and the terrible games stopped forever. The development of a love relationship between the heroine and Pete was also decided: both were frankly explained. Subsequently, the heroine married him and gave birth to him a boy and a girl.

Criticism

Most of the literary commentators positively assessed the image created by Collins. They emphasize that it is the heroines of this kind that are relevant and popular in our time. However, some note that the girl does not have at least some proportion of femininity. However, the authors point out that this is due to the difficult conditions in which she spent her childhood and youth.
