Scoring in biathlon: a brief description
The Biathlon World Cup is similar in its scheme to any regular soccer championship. This competition, consisting of several stages scattered throughout the season. The winner of the whole tournament is determined by the highest number of points scored at all World Cup starts. On how the accrual of points in the biathlon occurs, and will be discussed below.
Strength - in stability
The Biathlon World Cup is held since 1977. Initially, in order to get points in your personal classification, you had to get into the top 25 in the race. The winner received 25 points, the second winner - 24, etc.
The number of participants entitled to receive points has increased. Now it is enough to be among the best forty athletes. In order to increase the importance of victory and prizes, they increased the award for being in the top three. The race triumphant gets 60 points, the second winner - 54, the third - 48, etc. Starting with the ninth place the difference is only one point. Scoring in the biathlon according to the organizers of the tournament should lead to the definition of the strongest, but not the most stable athlete.
At the end of the season, the points of all stages are added, excluding the two worst ones, and the winner of the entire World Cup is determined. The champion in the total amount of points receives the main prize. The best athletes in individual types are awarded with small cups. Races that take place within the framework of the World Cup, also go into the asset athlete.
Team prize
The accrual of cups in biathlon takes place not only to determine one best athlete. At the same time, a country is determined which, by the end of the season, will receive the Nations Cup.
The accrual of points in the biathlon for the Nations Cup is based on a slightly different scheme. Among personal races, only disciplines with a separate start are set off - individual race and sprint. For each country, the results of the three best athletes are summarized. Points for relay races are accrued on a special scale. The winner receives 420 points, the second winner - 390, the third - 360, etc. The team that came last, takes only 30 points.
As already mentioned, the setting in the final table of the Nations Cup is important for determining the quota for athletes for each country. The first 5 best can claim six athletes for the World Cup.
Mass start
Scoring in biathlon, taking place in real time at the world championships, is important for determining the participants in the final race - the mass start. Trainers and athletes have to keep in mind the World Cup standings table, in fact 15 out of 30 seats are given to the leaders of the current season.
