Jeremy Beebs: biography and photos

For thousands of years, man seems to have explored every corner of the world. However, even with high technologies and space satellites, information on uninhabited islands still appears . The greatest sensation are the facts of people staying on them, who, not by their own will, but by the will of fate were there. All this, in bright detail, resembles the novel by D. Defoe "Robinson Crusoe." So kind of it really is. Because people who experienced such a situation, literally have to survive away from civilization, in absolutely wild conditions.

Jeremy Beebs is one of such robinsons with his long history, which today deserves understanding and admiration.

Crash

In 1911, the British schooner "Perfect Bliss", engaged in freight traffic, fell into a hurricane in the southern part of the Pacific Ocean. The ship sank, and with it the entire crew of the ship. It was possible to save only one young boy, who was barely 14 years old. Fate seemed to show mercy towards him. And miraculously the young man was thrown out on an uninhabited coral island, overgrown with coconut palms. But it is here that the real test begins for him.

Maiden voyage

His name was Jeremy Beebs. He was, apparently, from a simple English family, where at an early age children had to earn their own bread. All his life from an early age he was connected with the sea. And the schooner "Beautiful bliss" offered him a chance to do what he liked and at the same time earn a little.

From numerous sources it is known that the boy was able to read and was very fond of this matter. Especially he was fascinated by adventurous sea stories. It is easy to assume that his favorite work was the novel by Daniel Defoe "Robinson Crusoe", published two centuries earlier before the fateful day. Who could then foresee that this book will play a crucial role in his life ...

Island

Having come to the island, just like his favorite literary hero, Jeremy Bibbs was completely at a loss. He and the island were left alone. It is difficult to imagine how any other child would have acted in such a situation, but Jeremy, having collected the will, began to gradually grow new territory. And in this he was helped by the same favorite book, which he remembered in detail. It is necessary to note his character and thirst for life. After all, on the island, except for thickets of coconut and some fruits, nothing more.

What helped to survive?

Jeremy Beeves, whose biography was now closely intertwined with the island, built a hut, made a bow and arrows to hunt birds. The very first food was fruit, they lost their appetite and quenched their thirst. Favorite favorite of young Robinson was coconut. He, in addition to delicious pulp and milk, served as dishes. In his shell Jeremy collected rainwater from the fresh water.

Caught the bird he cut and fried at the stake. As a knife he used sharp stones. The fire was bred with the help of tinder. In addition, he made a fishing rod and during the tides successfully extracted fish. The eggs of birds served him as breakfast. Following the example of a literary predecessor, the young man began to conduct a "wooden calendar" from the first days of his arrival on the island, making notches on a palm tree.

Life in another world

It is hard to imagine how he overcame the loneliness on the empty island of Jeremy Beebs. His story as a Robinson lasted 74 years. And for this long time, the planet was shaken by two world wars, the beginning of space exploration by man, the invention of an atomic bomb, and the invention of the first computer, subsequently called the personal computer. Of course, about all these changes and discoveries in the civilization of Jeremy Bibs did not know. Much has changed in his native country. Therefore, after arriving after so many years in his native country, he probably experienced a considerable shock.

The rescue

An already 88-year-old Robinson was discovered in 1985 by the crew of the West German expedition (according to other sources, just a German merchant ship), contrary to the schedule and calculations found by the coast of the coral island. Of course, the old man was taken and taken to his homeland. But who was waiting for him there? Probably, it already does not matter. The press was interested in the unusual story that Jeremy Bibs brought with him. His photos are not available today. Perhaps they are stored in the London archives. Perhaps they are not at all. But what the youth-robinson looked like, today it is unknown.

However, when the wave of curiosity of journalists slept a little, a number of questions arose to the hero. Why for so many years Jeremy Beebs has not found a way to sail from the island. It did not inflame fires to attract attention floating, perhaps, in some miles of ships. And if we assume that the sea routes did not pass by the island, then why did not he build a raft or even a boat, did not calculate the approximate direction of the traffic and did not dare to swim away. And there were some minor doubts about his sanity, clothes, climate and other household trivia. But these questions remained unanswered.

After

Soon after returning to his native country, the thread of the biography of the old man Jeremy Bibs abruptly cuts off. Perhaps he died or voluntarily left from the dramatically stricken glory. His story was forgotten for a while. But today there are different versions. Perhaps the British Robinson, settling on the island, did not want to return back. It would be necessary to explain the reasons and details of the shipwreck. And also his stay at the schooner at such a young age. And it is not known what cargo, where and where the ship was transported. The world changed dramatically during his stay on the island and it is unlikely that anyone would go into such details, but the hermit man did not know this. Or maybe he just liked such a solitary life in the bosom of nature. Today, with full confidence, this is difficult to talk about. But in the world there are people who voluntarily become hermits.

Other Robinsons

World history already remembers a lot of such heroes. But nevertheless it is necessary to distinguish those who become robinsons by the will of chance, and who - at their own volition. Undoubtedly, Alexander Selkirk became the pioneer of the "domestication" of the uninhabited wild island . He was a sailor and had a temper. After another conflict with the captain himself asked to land him on the nearest island. So the command arrived. A few years later, Selkirk returned home. It was his image that formed the basis of the famous novel Defoe.

To modern Robinsons include Ivan José and Brandon Grimshaw. The first was discovered in 2014 on one of the Marshall Islands. As it turned out, his boat, while traveling from Mexico to El Salvador, broke down and lost the screw. He roamed the ocean for 16 months. He ate fish, caught birds and turtles. He collected rainwater for drinking.

The history of Brendon Grimshaw is an example of a voluntary Robinsonade. In the 60s he made a trip to Seychelles on work and fell in love with these places. The entrepreneur chose the least livable island of Moyen and bought it for 13 thousand dollars. Brandon took a hermit's life and set out to find someone on the island. The search was crowned with success. The "Friday" of the modern Robinson was Creole Rene Lafortuno. They became friends and began to transform the island: they planted 16,000 trees, ran water and began to breed turtles. As a result, in 2008 the island was given the status of a national park. Today it is open for tourists.

Among these people, unequivocally Jeremy Bibes is the record holder. More than half a century without communication with people, apart from civilization, in absolutely unsuitable conditions for life, he was able to survive, and moreover, to live to the very gray hair, without losing faith in himself.

Today, Jeremy Beebs is Robinson, whose story may well be a source for the script of the film or to form the basis of another novel about people with a thirst for life and incredible willpower.

Truth or fiction?

However, there were skeptics who did not believe in the story of Jeremy Bibs. She suspiciously coincides with the plot of the famous novel and looks more like a fairy tale. Moreover, there are no documents confirming it officially. Many modern people from all over the world know his name and are remembered as one of the modern Robinsons. Someone heard about it from acquaintances or older people, someone read on the Internet or even an article in a scientific journal with the headline: "Jeremy Beebs, who lived on the island for 74 years." Nevertheless, so far from civilization he became a hero. True, it is worth paying tribute to the crew of the ship that discovered it. By the way, his name is also not mentioned in the sources. Otherwise, the glory would never have found its hero. And we just have to believe or doubt. After all, who knows how many such people-robinsons in the world, who have not yet been found ...
