James Gordon - a character from the series of comics about Batman

As you know, Batman first appeared in the 27th issue of the "Detective comics" publisher DC. At the same time on the first page of the new edition was depicted a completely different character. It was an incorruptible policeman, James Gordon, who became a faithful companion of the Dark Knight. Despite the absence of any superhuman powers, this man became one of the most popular comic book heroes, along with Batman and Robin.

James Worthington Gordon

This brown-eyed brunette with graying, who almost always wears glasses and smokes a lot, was feared and hated by all the criminals of Gotham no less, and sometimes more than Batman. He was the ideal policeman: he is brave, strong, intelligent, and most importantly - incorruptible.

The main feature of this character, which distinguishes him from other DC characters, is his willpower. Thanks to her, James Gordon overcame difficulties in which other superheroes were lost. However, the most dangerous opponent of this character was corruption. By the way, it was his anti-corruption position that helped to win this hero's love of readers around the world.

Biography of Gordon before transfer to Gotham

James was born in gangster Chicago. In his youth he served in the US special forces, where he studied martial arts, which in the future was very useful to him.

Becoming a policeman in his hometown, he quickly made enemies of himself not only in the criminal world, but also among his unclean colleagues. After James Gordon began to "dig" under one of the most influential criminal clans in Chicago, he was transferred to Gotham.

In a new place, the life of an honest policeman did not improve, because the corruptness of the policemen in Gotham was not compared to Chicago. Despite all this, Gordon did not change his principles. Soon he was instructed to form a group to catch Batman.

Beginning of cooperation with Batman

At first, James did not really trust the Dark Knight and his methods. But soon he, to his horror, was convinced that the masked hero was his only reliable ally in the fight against crime in this city.

Because the Defender of Gotham is outlawed, the honest policeman had to hide the fact of their cooperation. Soon, the local district attorney Harvey Dent joined the fighters for justice (James Gordon, Batman) . Together, this trio destroyed the criminal organization Carmine Falcone. In addition, James soon became a captain.

The fight with two-faced and the Joker

Unfortunately, the victory over the criminal clan Falcone was not without cost. Harvey Dent began to develop schizophrenia, which he struggled with since childhood. During the trial, one of the criminals doused the prosecutor with acid, mutilating half his face. This all together served to the fact that Dent went insane and became a criminal under the pseudonym Duplicate.

The new enemy of Gotham gave Gordon and Batman a lot of trouble. However, from time to time they managed to defeat him and send him to the hospital. However, coming out from there, Dent again took up the old.

Over time, the talented surgeon Thomas Elliott (who is also the criminal Hash) was able not only to restore Harvey's appearance, but also help him cope with the disease. In the future, Khash wanted with the help of Two-faced to destroy Batman. But Dent again sided with the law and saved the Defender of Gotham, and returned him and Gordon's trust. However, later he again became a curve path.

Another dangerous enemy of the tandem of fighters against crime was the clown Joker. Once he took Gordon hostage and started torturing him, trying to drive him crazy. However, Batman managed to stop this in time. James Gordon, having withstood all the trials and retaining common sense, kept Knight Gotham from punishing the criminal and sent the latter to the hospital. In the same period, Gordon becomes a commissioner.

Gordon and the new Batman (Azrael)

Years of fighting against criminals, as well as smoking led to the fact that the Commissioner had a heart attack. Because of this, he left the service for a long time.

After recovering and returning to work, Commissioner James Gordon learned that due to a trauma to Bruce Wayne's backbone, the role of Defender Gotham is performed by Azrael. Unlike Wayne, the new Batman was more cruel, which at first gave good results. However, Gordon did not like the style of work of the new Dark Knight, and he did not cooperate with him. Because of this behavior, the new mayor, who approved of Batman's behavior, removed James from the post of commissioner.

Realizing that he stopped doing something in the fight against crime, Gordon decided to run for mayors. By the time Wayne regained his strength and, disappointed in his successor, regained the role of Batman. Realizing that it is better than James Gordon to not find the police commissioner, he persuaded the latter to withdraw his candidacy and support Marion Grange. Becoming mayor, this woman returned Gordon to the position of Commissioner.

Further fate of the hero

After a powerful earthquake and the machinations of some criminal geniuses, Gotham was destroyed and expelled from the US. Many of its inhabitants left the city. However, Commissioner Gordon remained. He did his best to maintain order in Gotham. Due to the long absence of Batman, James was forced to unite with the Two-faced. Soon he tried to kill the commissioner, but Gordon was able to play on the split personality of the criminal and be saved.

When Batman returned to the city, his friend could not forgive him for a long time, but later they could find a common language. Gradually, Gotham began to recover, and many townspeople returned. True, among the returnees there were also criminal elements, in particular the Joker.

On Christmas Eve this villain intended to kidnap all the children in the city. Trying to stop him, Gordon lost his wife. From the murder of the criminal, the commissar was kept in time by Batman.

Hardly recovering from the death of his beloved, James was seriously wounded by his former colleague from Chicago, whom Gordon convicted of corruption and brought to trial. After recovering, James did not return to the service, but went on a journey. Later, after returning to Gotham, he began to teach at a local university.

After Batman was again forced to leave his hometown, the crime rate began to grow steadily. This made Gordon again take up the commissioner's chair.

After a while, the Dark Knight again returned to his post. Unfortunately, he is not the only one: the Joker has again fled and decided to get even with his sworn enemies. During the bout, he intended to poison James Gordon with a laughing gas, but the brave commissar managed to survive.

Personal life of the valiant commissioner James Gordon

In the heart, this hero was not very lucky. Back in Chicago, he married Barbara Eileen. Soon after moving to Gotham, the couple had a son, James Gordon the Younger.

Due to the constant employment of the relationship, the spouses cooled down. Moreover, James made an affair with his colleague Sarah Essen. Despite the outbreak of feeling, the hero did not dare to leave the family. However, Gordon's corrupt colleagues, upon learning about the service novel, tried to blackmail him. Learning about this, Sarah left the city, not to be the Achilles' heel of her lover.

The Commissioner himself refused to comply with the demands of blackmailers, and the wife of James Gordon learned about everything. In order to make the policeman dance under his tune, the criminals stole his little son. But Batman managed to save the boy and punish the scoundrels. By the way, it was after this incident that friendship broke out between Gordon and Wayne.

Barbara Eileen after all the experience decided to take a break in the relationship and, taking her son, left Gotham. However, this did not save the marriage of the Gordons, and soon they divorced.

After the Joker captured and tortured the commissioner, Sarah returned to the city. Between her and James, the romance resumed, and they soon got married. The Union of James and Sarah was very harmonious, but when Gordon was removed from his post as commissioner, replacing him with his wife, problems began to arise in marriage. Fortunately, Gordons could overcome them.

After the earthquake in Gotham, Sarah persuaded her husband not to leave the ruined city. It was only after the Joker returned there that she died from his bullet.

Later, Gordon again converges with his ex-wife Barbara Eileen, but their common child, who returned to Gotham, gives his father a lot of problems.

Barbara Gordon

Once Gordon had a brother, Roger, but later he died with his wife, Thelma. After their death, thirteen-year-old Barbara remained an orphan. James adopted his niece.

Having moved to Gotham, the girl was carried away by Batman, dreaming of fighting crime herself. When Barbara grew up and wanted to work in the police, the adoptive father ridiculed her aspiration. To spite him, she appeared at the police ball in a homemade suit Batgel. Thanks to the appearance of the killer Motylka at the celebration, the girl was able to prove herself, and after a while Wayne took her to the Bat-detachment, revealing her identity.

Barbara Gordon was the first Batgel until she was accidentally captured by the Joker. He tormented the girl in front of her foster father to break it. After these events, Barbara remained chained to a wheelchair. But this did not stop her from fighting crime.

With her photographic memory, the girl, under the pseudonym Oracul, created a unique computer database, which not only benefited Batman, but also the Suicide Squad, as well as other heroes. Later, she retired and, hiding from everyone, just watched through the Internet for the activities of friends and enemies.

After the Joker killed Sarah, Commissioner Gordon wounded him in the leg, thus avenging Barbara's paralysis.

When James again met with his former wife and her half-brother returned to the city, the girl suspected something was wrong ...

James Gordon the Younger

The son of the brave commissar was not at all like his father. Even in his early childhood he was distinguished by spiteful disposition and did not get on well with others. After the murder of her friend Bess, Barbara began to suspect the half-brother in this. However, she had no evidence. Becoming an Oracle, the girl watched her brother, but did not speak about it to her father.

When James the Younger returned to Gotham, he told his dad about his problems with the psyche. But he reassured him that he was taking a new effective medicine. Tortured by doubts, the commissioner asked his daughter to do an analysis of the drug and found out that he does not treat the son's psychopathy, but, on the contrary, strengthens it. Moreover, Gordon the Elder and Barbara learned that the guy was giving this medicine to the infants in order to turn them into psychopaths.

While the commissar tried to stop his son, he kidnapped his half-sister and tried to kill her, but was stopped by Wayne and sent to the hospital.
