Instruction on how to password "wi-fi"

Every day, more and more wireless networks appear in dwellings and enterprises. And this is not surprising. After all, you can connect to such a network from any point where the radio signal of the router gets to, and there is no need to be tied to the place where the cable is connected. And this is without mentioning how much money is required to purchase this cable itself, as well as the hassles to hide it or at least more or less aesthetically to lay it down.

If there is no password

However, one should not forget that if you do not protect your wireless network with a password, everyone can be connected to it, and not only those who are in the radio signal zone of the router. This is fraught with a drop in data transmission speed , as well as unnecessary costs for the used traffic by unauthorized persons. Therefore, in order to prevent all of the above, it is necessary to take appropriate measures.

About how to secure the "wy-fi-router," it was said a lot, however, despite this, people constantly ask this question. Whether users are too lazy to study the instruction, or it describes this procedure inaccessible language - it does not matter. What is important is that many people still do not know how to password-protect the "wi-fi", and unscrupulous people use it with pleasure. For this reason, we decided to contribute to the education of inexperienced users. Now we will try to explain how to "wi-fi".

Different models, one principle

We will configure one of the most common models - D-Link DIR 300. But before that, we will immediately say that after reading this material, you will know how to password-protect the Asus, TP-Link, D-Link and others as this The principle is similar in each of them.

First let's find out if the settings for the router are correctly entered. If this is the case, then when you connect the device to it, it will be able to access the Internet. If this is not possible, it indicates that the router is not configured. Enter all necessary data according to the instructions of your device, as well as provided by the provider (login, password, connection type and so on).

Configuring with any device

When the settings are entered and the computer connects to the router, it goes online, it's time to figure out how to secure the "wi-fi". This is done directly from a laptop or computer. And it does not really matter how these devices are connected - using a cable or through a wireless connection. By the way, it can also be done using a smartphone or tablet.

We launch absolutely any browser on your device. When it was loaded, in the address bar write the address of the router. As a rule it is: 192.168.0.1, but if you can not enter the interface of the router at this address, try 192.168.1.1. Some of them will definitely work.

Access to the interface

When the interface is loaded, a dialog box appears in front of you that requires you to enter a login with a password. Typically, the default value is "admin" in both fields. If you suddenly entered such a value, but the device "does not let you" into its settings, there may be two reasons.

The first. Someone who set up this router, changed the username with a password. In this case, you must specify this information from the master. If this is not possible, you need to return to the default device settings and repeat the login procedure. The second. Other values are set on your router. Basically the manufacturer points them at the bottom of the wireless device or in the instructions, so look there.

When you have successfully passed the authorization, the computer will show you the page with the settings of the router. In all devices it looks different, but the structure and principle of setting are almost the same. True, not all equipment has firmware supporting the Russian language. In this case, difficulties may arise for those users who do not know or do not speak English well enough.

A robust authentication algorithm

So, go to the section of manual settings and find in it an item that is responsible for setting security. This is where the password setup procedure will occur. You should find (it will be easy) the network authentication tab (it can be called differently, but the meaning will be reduced to this). Here you will be offered several authentication algorithms. I will not tell you about all, because today the most reliable one is WPA2-PSK. While there is nothing better against hacking.

When you select this item, a field should appear that will be called "Encryption key". In it, you must enter the combination of characters that you want to enter in order to be able to connect to your wireless network. I strongly recommend using a complex combination for the password, which will consist of both numbers and letters, preferably a different register. The password must consist of at least eight characters.

Have you entered it? Excellent. Now click the "Edit" or "Save" button. If everything went well, the system will notify you that the settings have been saved. Now you know exactly how to secure "wi-fi".
