How to Protect From Manipulation? 5 Simple Passive Ways

So, having bitten the interlocutor who resorts to dishonest methods, we must take some actions to protect. This article is devoted to passive ways of protection from manipulation. In the event that we do not know what to do in this situation in a conversation or do not want to hurry with the decision, passive methods will come to the aid. The most interesting, in my opinion, ways to protect against manipulation are listed below.

1. We leave from conversation.

The easiest way. Two options for further development of communication. Either you gradually change the subject, or abruptly interrupt the conversation. Although, the latter option refers more to active methods than to passive ones.

2. The "autopilot"

Your interlocutor vividly describes that you owe him something, that you act ugly, and everything in that spirit. How to cope? Let's talk on autopilot! We respond to the partner in conversation with "empty" phrases in the spirit of "interesting," "I'll think about it," "Uh-huh." Arguments of the interlocutor bounce like peas on the wall, without causing harm, and the manipulator begins to run into confusion.

3. Increase the physical distance

Here everything is simple: the manipulator has the greatest influence, having invaded the personal zone. Increase the distance - reduce the effect. You can leave at all. :)

4. Turn on the "internal editor"

We represent that there is a filter between you and the manipulator. And you decide what will come to you, and what not! Phrases, emotions - everything is under your control! We let only the information that is useful for you.

5. Hide emotions

And, finally, the most important way. And not the easiest. If you feel that you are emotionally pressured, you need to try not to succumb to provocation and as far as possible to hide your emotions. There are two ways: either pretend not to have heard , or just ignore the argument .

If you chose the second path, then here are four simple chips that will help you:

  • Just silently consider the interlocutor. Do not say anything. From half a minute to tens of minutes: there are different situations.
  • Imagine the interlocutor in a comical situation and smile. :) This will confuse the manipulator and hide your emotions.
  • Call in itself calmness . Inhale and exhale. If there is an opportunity to prepare (for example, before an interview or negotiations), spend a short meditation.
  • Just tighten with the answer. Do not say anything, but calmly look at the situation from the side.

So, I talked about simple ways of protection that will help you to carve out a little time and once again properly evaluate the difficult situation and words of the manipulator.
