How to make tandoor from brick by own hands

Any dish, cooked in the fresh air, has an original taste. It has a special scent that can not be obtained by cooking food on the gas stove at home. Tandoor made of bricks is a brazier oven used in Central Asia. It is intended for cooking various dishes: it can bake bread, meat, make samsa, etc. Furnaces can have different shapes: be vertical or horizontal, placed on the surface of the ground or under it. Regardless of these distinctive features, they all function in the same way.

Today, brick oven-frypans have become especially popular, and the tandyr made of bricks is very simple to make. To do this, it is necessary to lay out the lower part of the stone, and the top to mold from the clay. First of all, you should choose the right place. It is advisable to make the structure under a canopy, so that the rain or snow does not interfere with cooking. In this canopy can be built already above the finished stove. It is necessary to excavate a pit approximately 1 meter deep, and also to choose the place where the asbestos tube intended for air supply will be located.

Beginning to do tandyr of brick with their own hands is necessary with the laying of bricks. It is necessary to lay out the bottom of the pit and top it with clay, then install the pipe from asbestos so that it does not reach the bottom (the distance to the bottom is 5-6 cm). The pipe should be located at a slope of approximately 45 degrees. Next, you should enclose the brick walls of the pit, laying it with a narrow side. A solution is not used for this. The diameter of the oven-brazier is about 50 centimeters, one row will need slightly more than 20 bricks. If desired, you can make a large oven.

Next, the remaining rows are laid out, with each subsequent should be slightly larger than the previous, on the wall are formed small ledges. Doing tandyr with their own hands made of bricks, it is necessary to fill the seams from the outside with dry clay. The last row of bricks should be well coated with clay mortar. To do this, dilute the dry clay with water to the consistency of sour cream, strain the resulting composition through a fine sieve. Leave for a while to keep the clay, while the heavy particles will drop down, and water will appear on the surface. This liquid must be poured on the bricks, and top with clay.

Ready tandyr made of bricks, made by hand, must be stable. Therefore, having smeared the top of the oven once, it is necessary to strengthen it with a conventional plaster grid, cut into strips. And from above it is necessary to put one more layer of clay composition. The thickness of the layer will be about 1 centimeter. After the base is installed, it is necessary to make a clay dome with an opening in the upper part.

For the dome you need a suitable template. For this purpose, you can use a large cauldron, a bowler or any other container of round shape. Turn the vessel upside down, lay a layer of newsprint on the whole surface and coat it with clay. The thickness of the layer should be approximately 5 mm. In the center, you must leave a hole. After the clay dries a little, it is necessary to overlay the dome with sheep's wool and apply a second coat. So repeat a few times.

When building a tandoor of brick with your own hands, it is worth remembering that the clay for the furnace must be taken as fireproof. After the dome is ready, it is necessary to mold the neck, wait a while and remove the structure from the template. After this, it is necessary to dry the dome well and install it on a brick foundation, to cover all the cracks and joints with clay.

Now you can start burning. It is necessary to dissolve the inside of the fire and maintain it for several hours. The finished dome should not crack, but with light bangs it should make a ringing. This will be a signal to the fact that the tandoor is ready.
