How to make an arch of plasterboard with your own hands

Rounded arched constructions instead of square rough openings look more attractive, giving to a room style, chamberiness and a cosiness. Rounded forms, in addition, act on a person's psychological state more favorably. Therefore, if this does not contradict the stylistics of the room, replace the rectangular opening in the wall with an arch, and you will see how much it will be transformed, and as a material for construction, drywall is quite suitable. There is a natural question: how to make an arch of plasterboard, and whether it is possible to build it yourself? This work is not complicated. Anyone who has little experience with the material will cope with the task. And what we will need for this will be described below.

How to make an arch of plasterboard with your own hands

Consider an example of embedding an arch into a standard opening, whose height is 2 meters, and the width is 80 cm.

1. Along the perimeter of the upper part of the opening at the same height and from both sides we screw the profile UD-27 with screws, attaching them at the same distance. The length of the profiles is approximately 1.6 meters. Now from a sheet of plasterboard of a suitable size (ie not less than 80 cm wide), it is necessary to cut out two details for the arch. To do this, we place a pattern on a hard, flat surface. At the bottom of the sheet, stepping slightly from the edge, make a hole. From him to the center we measure 40 cm and put a mark in which we screw a metal profile with a length of 40 cm. At the end of this profile, fix a pencil and, as with a compass, draw a semicircular line of the necessary length from the hole made to the opposite edge of the sheet. On the prepared pattern, with a sharp knife, we cut out two identical parts, applying them to the profile in the opening. If there are some inconsistencies, the details are trimmed with a knife, and the extra profile is cut off by the Bulgarian. After the final adjustment of the details, we screw them to the profile with screws, deepening the hats so that they do not protrude.

2. Now we need to make two parts from the profile UD-27, which are placed along the radius of the arch. First determine their length, which is calculated as follows: the Pi (3,14) is multiplied by 2, then this value is multiplied by the radius of the circle (400 mm) and then everything is divided by 2. Cut the profile of the resulting length and scissor over the metal symmetrically cut it into A distance of 30-40 mm along the entire length. We bend in the form of a semicircle, we find the middle and we fasten to the arches on the wall from the inside from the center first into one and then to the other side, combining the edges of the profile and plasterboard. The second part is also exactly screwed on the other side of the opening.

3. Now we install the part from the plasterboard from below into the resulting arched construction. For this, it is better to take a thin material, not more than 9.5 mm. Cut the drywall sheet of the right size (it should already be an opening 3-4 mm on each side). We need to bend it with an arch. In order to bend the plasterboard without breaking it, first the material is rolled with a needle roller, making shallow holes all over the surface, and then moistened with water sufficiently abundantly - so that it penetrates through the "pores" made and the gypsum inside the sheet gets wet and softened. After this, the part easily bends, taking the desired shape. We screw it to the curved profiles inside the opening. This part must evenly enter the interior of the structure, all the irregularities neatly cut off with a knife.

We hope, an example of how to make an arch from gypsum board, has figuratively demonstrated to you the process of work. Now proceed to the putty and sealing joints. For finishing work, a self-adhesive, narrow construction sickle will be required, or the angle of the gypsum board can be fixed with a special thin metal corner, which is easily bent. Sickle patch on the corner, and then shpaklyuyut. Fill with filler also requires all irregularities, cracks and grooves for self-tapping screws. After that, the interior arch is decorated with finishing materials.

Let's talk about how to make an arch of plasterboard with backlighting. This design will be an additional decorative element in the room and will look very impressive. For lighting use built-in lamps, and for their installation will need to conduct preliminary electrical installation work. The wires are hidden in the gypsum board structure at the stage of its installation, before attaching the inner arch piece. And in the details, respectively, make an equal distance holes for fixtures. After the construction is completely assembled, plastered and finished, the lamps are inserted into the prepared places.

The amazing material is drywall. With his hands from it you can do many different things, here and the interior arch, built with his help, will become a stylish element of the interior.
