The tachometer is an integral part of every car

A tachometer is an integral part of every car. This device is used to determine the number of engine revolutions, the value of which is then displayed on a special scale. Typically, this measurement process takes place in a few milliseconds, so that the driver can only get reliable information about the current state of the "engine" of his car. What is special about the "tachometer" and how it works, you will find out in the course of our today's article.

Functions

The main task of this device is to facilitate the selection of the necessary (more accurately correct) transmission on the switching box, which significantly increases the dynamics of the vehicle and not so "suffers" the motor. Beginners for reference: engine operation at low or high speed entails a significant load on all parts of the KSHM, so that the life of the engine and gearbox is significantly reduced. Thus, the tachometer is a kind of "adviser" that shows the driver current engine speed and thus indicates the possible need to switch to an increased or lowered speed (respectively, if the needle has dropped or has gone beyond the green scale).

Principle of operation

The main essence of such a device, as a tachometer, is the registration and monitoring of the number of pulses coming from the crankshaft sensor. It is with the sensors, so do not think that the tachometer cable is winding somewhere there on the crankshaft or something else. It is also worth noting that pulse counting can be done both in the forward and backward directions (in some cases, even in both directions).

The value measured by the sensor is displayed on a special scale. Here the main measurement value is the number of revolutions per minute (rpm). At the same time, deviation in the region of several hundred revolutions is possible on the pointer devices (on the scale itself, a run-off from 2 to 8 thousand rpm is often indicated). On electronic devices, a more accurate indication is displayed. By the way, about varieties.

Kinds

At the moment, there are two main types of devices, such as a tachometer. These are switch devices (they are often called analog) and digital type. The first variety is the most ancient and at the same time reliable. Despite the fact that the electronic digital tachometer is a much more accurate and functional device, many drivers prefer to use the arrow mechanisms. The fact is that the readings from such a scale are very easily read, while for electronic ones one needs to get used to very long. And let the shooter be inaccurate in the testimony, but it is more convenient to read. And for the engine, the main thing is that the speed does not go beyond the green scale. And the fact that there is a difference of 100-300 rpm, this is not very much.

Conclusion

Thus, the tachometer is a very useful measuring instrument (although not mandatory), which quickly reads the crankshaft speed and outputs these values to a special scale.
