Auto concern Honda is famous not only for its motorcycles, but also for cars. Of course, the Honda is not only a sports coupe, comfortable sedans and all-wheel drive crossovers. A considerable part of production has always been occupied by compact family cars - minivans. "Honda Stream" is one of them, it is about him that will be discussed in this article.

History

"Stream" (in translation from English - "stream") - a compact minivan for seven seats, debuted in 2000 in the Japanese market. And in less than a year the model appeared in the European market. While once a gap was formed due to the removal of the Shuttle and Civic models in the Aerodec body from production. To fill it, the Honda Stream was created. The technical solutions that this model was equipped with did not give a clear awareness of the difference between the minivan and the passenger car in the face of Stream. That is why it was and continues to be an excellent compromise when choosing a car for everyday driving by the whole family and alone.

At the moment, the Stream family has two generations, the first of which underwent restyling and some changes. The second is produced to this day and is one of the most preferred options for compact family cars around the world. The ratio of price, quality and reliability gives an indisputable advantage over a number of competitors.

Appearance

So, the first generation of the Honda Stream car, a photo of which in various finishes presented in this article, had a relatively low body, which allowed not only to give the car a sporty image, but also very effectively lower the center of gravity. The result of these decisions was to make the car attractive and quite swift. But, if someone says that the small ground clearance takes away the comfort of passengers, it will be absolutely wrong: on all three rows of seats passengers feel comfortable and comfortable, due to the thoughtful arrangement of details under the bottom.

It is worth noting that the body of the Honda Stream was made in a streamlined style and looked spindly. The red line of the tail lights that encircled the trunk lid glass looked very unusual and modern. The rich color scale of the line allowed to find a suitable option for anyone, even the most picky motorist.

As it was said earlier, there were seven seats in the car. In a fairly compact and limited space, Honda engineers adapted all the necessary amenities for the driver and passengers. In the salon, Japanese minimalism prevailed: all lines are monosyllabic. Basically, the inside of the car consisted of dark gray and black plastic. In all kinds of places, a lot of different shelves and boxes for small things are hidden. In order to dilute the slightly dull appearance of the plastic, titanium inserts were made and the instrument panel, which has an orange fluorescent backlight, is very beautifully decorated.

Engine

The first generation of Honda Stream, the technical characteristics of which excite the mind to this day, was equipped with several options for gasoline engines in volume of 1.7 and 2.0 liters. The reviews highlight a two-liter unit, the body of which was all-metal, and the engine itself had a modern system of intelligent dynamic control of the valve timing and lifting height of the i-VTEC valves. This "monster" was untwisted before cut-off in a matter of seconds and allowed already in the second gear to reach the coveted hundred from the start in just 9.5 seconds.

Not bypassed and 1.7-liter VTEC-engine, which was borrowed from the American "Civic Coupe." This "heart" did not give such speed and dynamics, but it allowed to save fuel in any driving modes.

Transmission

In total, there were several variations of the gearbox: a mechanical five-speed box and two options for automatic. For the 1.7-liter engine, a four-speed automatic was offered, which did not allow for a higher maximum speed, but gave dynamics during acceleration.

The two-liter "rower" was equipped with a five-speed automatic transmission with a sequential mode. Particularly convenient was the location of the gearbox selector - on the center console. The main advantage of the automatic transmission was a soft and almost noiseless gear shift. A nice addition was the possibility of switching the box to "manual mode".

Chassis

The suspension of Honda Stream, the characteristics of which are shown below, differed, depending on the equipment of the car. In any case, the car was equipped with an independent suspension of each wheel, front and rear stabilizers of lateral stability. Sport versions had more rigid shock absorbers, which had a smaller stroke, and the rear stabilizer of lateral stability was distinguished by a larger diameter.

It should be noted that the drive of the car was directly dependent on the place of distribution. For example, the front drive was equipped with models that were supplied to the foreign market. But the all-wheel drive variations occupied a small part of the Japanese market alone.

Safety and comfort

An important factor in choosing a Honda Stream car was that a suitable compromise was found between the safety and comfort of all people in the cabin. The car was equipped with four airbags, a central lock, belts with tensioners, ABS, air conditioning, heated mirrors and front seats, electric windows, mirrors and mirrors, as well as light alloy wheels and fog lights.
