Harm alcohol: drink or not drink - that's the question

How often does the phrase "Russian people always drink, from antiquity!", But is it so? Recipes for the production of alcohol-based beverages are really familiar to people with But very few people know that beer, wine and other ethanol-containing beverages at that time were medicines. After all, in fact, beer is an alcoholic tincture of malt and hops and a product enriched with vitamins of group B. At the time of natural medicine, beer was used in very limited quantities to treat diseases of the urinary tract. The same goes for wine. In fact, in ancient times alcoholic beverages were prepared not for amusement for holidays, but for the purpose of treatment, like alcohol tincture of echinacea, calendula, propolis now, and over time, individual individuals began to abuse them. Then, with the advent of Christianity, the production of beer and wine became the prerogative of the church, and then the monopoly of the state with the aim of manipulating society. The harm of alcohol, or rather the systematic and uncontrolled use of alcohol, was well known to the ancient peoples. So, in Russia in later times, when the tradition of drinking wine at weddings appeared, the newlyweds were strictly forbidden to drink, as everyone knew about the results of the conception of the child on the wedding night immediately after the feast with spirits. However, the harm of alcohol on the human body is not limited to the teratogenic effect. Modern medicine suggests that alcohol abuse has the following consequences:

  • First of all, the human nervous system suffers. The state of intoxication is a manifestation of toxic brain damage. In addition, there are irreversible changes in cerebral vessels, necrosis (dying off) of its individual parts, microcirculation, microroughgrowth and ulcers. More ethanol affects the cerebral cortex, which is responsible for intellectual and emotional activity than the subcortical structures. In the last stages of alcoholism , subcortical structures are affected, and then the spinal cord.
  • The intake of ethanol in the blood provokes the destruction of red blood cells, hyper- or hypoglycemia.
  • Alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver is one of the most well-known consequences confirming the harm of alcohol.
  • Some alcoholic drinks have a specific effect on the body. So, beer promotes the formation of the so-called bovine heart and, accordingly, the disruption of its work and, in addition, as a result of stress on the excretory system, there is a violation of kidney function.
  • The harm of alcohol on the body is expressed for the gastrointestinal tract. Ethanol reduces the synthesis of digestive enzymes, damages the mucous membranes of the digestive tract, resulting in ulcers, up to malignant neoplasms.
  • Over time, under the influence of systematic use of alcoholic drinks, the sexual function of both men and women is inhibited.

Despite all these facts, there are many common misconceptions about the benefits of drinking alcohol, in fact, only confirming the harm of alcohol:

  • The people consider that alcoholic beverages successfully cure colds, which, naturally, is a gross mistake: ethanol, on the contrary, reduces the immunity of a person. Recently, with the increase in the number of oncological diseases, even "cancer treatment methods" have appeared with the help of vodka and sunflower oil, leading to a significant reduction in the life expectancy of patients.
  • It is also believed that you can keep warm with alcohol. In fact, with alcohol consumption, the threshold of sensitivity decreases, so there is a subjective sensation of heat, but all tissues and organs of a person continue to suffer from a cold already uncontrolled by the brain. In addition, the body in such stressful conditions have to spend additional energy, not on heating vital organs, but on cleavage and detoxification of alcohol.
  • Alcohol is useful to drink in the form of an aperitif before dinner to increase appetite and better digestion. In fact, ethanol reduces the synthesis of digestive enzymes, and eating it before eating, on an empty stomach, is likely to earn a gastritis.

The harm of alcohol for human health rarely stops people, but in addition, there is also a close relationship between social status, family well-being, personal qualities and the use of alcoholic beverages. So, even with a one-time intake of ethanol, there are irreversible changes in the cells of the cortex of the brain, which eventually inevitably affects intellectual abilities. Simply put, a person degrades with each drink or a bottle of beer! Of course, this can not but affect his appearance, career, relationships with other people, including in the family, and importantly, the health of his future children. So are there several hours of euphoria of a tangible and irreversible decline in the quality of life?
