Genocide is what? The meaning of the word "genocide". The Genocide of Peoples in History

Sometimes this term, which carries a sharply negative meaning for the entire civilized world, is confused with similar bursts of social aggression in nature. In this article we will consider what exactly it means in fact, we will highlight its most striking manifestations in its monstrosity.

Definition

So, genocide is a crime committed to destroy, undermine as much as possible a certain group of people on the ground:

  • Aggressive conviction that some human races prevail over others. Attempts to eradicate those who do not resemble biological characters.
  • The rejection of a number of nationalities, their recognition as "inferior" and "unworthy." Again, it has an aggressive form, based on the conviction that there should not be a "second class".
  • The rejection of religious choice.

Genocide is a phenomenon that, in addition to direct physical destruction, practices the creation of intolerable conditions in which the further development of the "enemy" is impossible. For example, when it comes to religion, the practice of forcibly removing children from families. It is also common practice to prevent conception and childbirth in a number of cases.

History of the Term

The official beginning of the recognition of the genocide was laid at the end of the Second World War. Introduced by his lawyer Rafael Lemkin, a citizen of Poland and a Jew by birth. Members of his family became victims of the Holocaust, and it was the term "genocide" Professor Lemkin who wanted to fully describe the monstrous atrocities of the Nazi policies, which killed many people not only between 1939 and 1945, but also events that occurred two decades before Togo. The question is how cold-bloodedly and purposefully in 1915, countless Armenians were carved with the blessing of the Ottoman Empire.

In itself, the term "genocide" is based on the Greek word "genos", which means "genus," and Latin "qido," which means "kill."

Official Recognition

In official documents, the word first appeared during the Nuremberg Trials - the genocide of the people was included in the verdict, trying to more fully describe all the atrocities that fascists committed during the war. However, this was not enough for the term to become legal.

At the end of 1948, the UN adopted a convention on genocide crimes. It most fully set out all the provisions, which the countries that adopted the Convention should strictly adhere to. Genocide, regardless of its form and manifestation, must be warned and severely punished. The only thing among the groups of people that could become potentially oppressed, there was no place for those who are united by common political views. Because of this, over time, genocide acquired a "younger brother" - a politician.

The Armenian Genocide

At the end of April each year, the world remembers the countless number of representatives of the Armenian people that they fell victims of the Ottoman regime . The Armenian Genocide is a monstrous crime against humanity. From April 24 to the end of June in the territory of the Ottoman Empire, at least 1.5 million representatives of the Armenian intelligentsia were cut out. As a result, not one indigenous resident was left in the west of Armenia.

Before the First World War, Armenians around the world were at least 4 million according to official data, with most of them residing on the territory of the ill-fated Ottoman Empire. The ideology of the state, now called Turkey, did not tolerate representatives of non-Türkic peoples.

The Armenian genocide is the first open act of aggression, which opened the way for others in the twentieth century. It took place in 2 stages:

  • Even before the outbreak of the First World War, it was decided to destroy the community and clannishness of the Armenian people, but then the ramps were of a local nature. Nevertheless, by the end of 1896, as a result of the measures taken by the Ottoman Empire, more than 300,000 Armenians lost their lives. Even then, many of them began to leave their native places, realizing that this is only the beginning.
  • The second stage came into force, as soon as 1915 came. The government decided that radical measures should be taken to eradicate the Armenian people. On the first day of the "sweeping operation", on April 24, about 8 hundred Armenians were killed. Between May and June, uncontrolled massacre came to the fore in the Ottoman Empire. The results are as follows: 1.5 million people were killed, almost as many were deported.

The Armenian genocide is the main reason for the fact that today the nation is dispersed all over the world, because people, saving their lives, have found a new home outside their homeland - who is where.

The genocide of Jews. The Holocaust

The end of the nineteenth century "gave" Germany ideas based on racial anti-Semitism, in which Jews were positioned as bearers of unfit signs, which disastrously affect all of humanity as a whole. It was racist anti-Semitism that became the focus of those thoughts that Adolf Hitler brought to the grateful and attentive public. As soon as he gained power, he immediately began to fulfill his promises. Since 1933 the Jewish people were persecuted, oppressed and destroyed by Nazi punishers.

At the end of July 1941, Goering verified and signed a special order, which was called upon to finally solve the Jewish question.

The first stage was the creation of Jewish ghettos, where they were resettled, depriving property and houses.

Parallel to this, the erection of death camps began everywhere , which, according to their design, were not designed for simultaneous residence of a large number of people. In fact, it was a horrific conveyor of death, into which people acted and did not return.

In December 1941, the first camp began its activities - the endless echelons of those who lived in the ghetto and tried to hope for the best went into it.

During the first half of 1942, at least 300,000 Jews who had previously lived in Warsaw were killed. The monstrous death machine only gained momentum, and by the end of the Second World War, the loss of Jews amounted to about 6 million among civilians, but this is an approximate number - the Nazis burned out entire villages, no information, no data, no possibility to identify the dead.

Kurdish genocide

The Kurdish genocide is an act of aggression by the Iraqi government and with the blessing of its leader Saddam Hussein towards the Kurdish tribal peoples. He went through several stages:

  • The first stage was carried out in the middle of 1983, when all men and boys over the age of 15 were killed. All the deported Kurds that belonged to the bazan tribe were taken outside the camp in an unknown direction, no one returned.
  • The second stage of the scheme was similar to the first, but had a wider radius of damage. That was Operation Anfal (Trophy), conducted by the army of Iraq for 2 years, since 1987. About two hundred thousand representatives of Kurdish tribes were killed or disappeared without a trace.

The whole scale of the atrocities became evident after the overthrow of Hussein - mass burials and concentration camps were found out in which at least 700 thousand people were imprisoned, lost freedom, but managed to survive the genocide of the Kurds. What did this give Hussein? The feeling of one's own omnipotence and impunity, perhaps, however, after overthrowing it quickly disproved. Nevertheless, about a million people became refugees, having lost their homes, not counting the dead.

Genocide is not only a threat from outside

Tragedies occur within a single nation. This cup did not pass this Russia. The desire of leaders to bring to nothing prosperity and the kulaks turned into human tragedies.

In the 1930s, dekulakization without exaggeration was in the form of open robbery and bullying. All segments of the population shuddered-neither teachers, nor peasants, nor clergymen could escape the punishing finger of universal equality. What in this case means the genocide of its own people? This deprivation of everything on property grounds, exile, deprivation and quick death.
