Fokker 50 - Aviation Classics

The Fokker Company was founded in 1912 by Anton Fokker. It lasted until March 1996, when it was declared bankrupt and sold-off. During its existence, dozens of models of civil and military aircraft were designed and built. Between 1920 and 1930, the company was the dominant one among similar enterprises.

F50 - more successful version of Friendship

Fokker 50 - one of the representatives of the family of civil airliners. The beginning of its creation was laid in 1983, and then the first projector developments were published. The model became the successor of the successful F27 Friendship, which at that time was in operation for 25 years. It was expected that this would be just a modification of this liner, but the differences were significant. Therefore, the original version of the name of the project (F27-050) was revised. The plane got its own family number. And the production of Friendship on this was discontinued.

While developing their aircraft, the company focused on reliability and safety. Often this increased the cost of projects. All models showed excellent durability. The new Fokker 50-th model received a turboprop engine, which allowed to obtain greater fuel efficiency. The design of the screws contributed to reducing noise during the flight.

His first flight Fokker 50-th model was carried out on December 28, Serial release began in 1987 and continued until 1996, when the company went bankrupt. During this time, more than two hundred Fokker 50 were produced. A photo of the various variations is presented below in the article. A total of 220 copies were produced.

Fokker 50: basic performance

The base version of the aircraft was equipped with a digital variation of the EDZ-806 avionic kit manufactured by Honeywell in the United States. 4 displays contain all necessary flight data. There are sensors for alerting about breakdowns of various system nodes. The equipment diagnosing the equipment is installed. The diameter of the screws having 6 blades is 3.66 m.

Various modifications of Fokker 50

  • 50-100 - version of the basic model of the aircraft, equipped with a PW125B engine and providing a 4-door saloon.
  • 50-120 - a variation that has 3 such doors.
  • 50-300 - this version should be used in high-altitude areas or having a hot climate. The PW127B engine was installed.
  • 50-320 - from the 300th version differed by the number of doors in the cabin.
  • 50-400 - the variation was only planned, but it was never put into production. It was assumed that it would be designed for 68 seats. Also had to have a significantly increased fuselage.

Fokker these days

Despite the fact that the release of this model has ceased more than 20 years ago, a cross on the use of aircraft should not be put. They still serve a person, carrying cargo and passengers.

For all time of existence of the model there were 12 accidents and breakages. All cases were investigated in detail. In the course of inspections and analytical activities, in almost all such cases, the fault of the crew or the aircraft serving the aircraft has been established. No technical problems were found. Liners showed a high proportion of wear resistance, reliability and safety.

Most of the copies are now operated by private individuals or small airlines on domestic flights of small length. Often there is an improvement completely under the carriage of goods.

In Russia, the use of these aircraft as a worthy replacement for An-24 was considered. The obstacle is the lack of certification.

In the CIS countries are widely used on many lines. For example, at the moment they are seen in the company AirAstana on the route Astana-Pavlodar-Astana.
