Fizalis vegetable in various dishes

Fizalis is a vegetable from the family of Solanaceae - a plant with fruits in the form of a berry, enclosed in a cheholch shell. The latter somewhat resembles a paper lantern due to the fact that sepals grow together long before ripening. Due to the bright and non-standard appearance that the physalis of vegetable has, this berry is often used as an ornament for various dishes - from salads to desserts.

The emerald berry (another name of the Physalis) is somewhat like a small tomato. Its color is from greenish-yellow to light orange. The taste can be quite pleasant. In several varieties it is bitter and searing. In nature, physalis is common in the sparse forests of the Baltic, Central Asia, Bulgaria, and the Caucasus. It usually grows among shrubs. Also found in the garden as a weed. In many countries now it is cultivated as an ornamental plant. Many different dishes are prepared from edible varieties. The sugars and specific taste that physalis possesses (the recipes of the preparation will be considered in this article a little lower), allows using it in desserts, marinades, sauces, pies. And also cook jam from it and make candied fruit. Fizalis vegetable has a pronounced sour taste, which makes it an excellent seasoning for meat, fish and vegetable stews. If the emerald berry is cooked, without violating its integrity, then you can use it as an edible decoration.

Unhealthy dishes from Physalis

First try to make a light salad to see if you like the taste of fresh emerald berries in the dishes. Take 50 g of physalis, ten quail eggs, a bunch of greens to your taste, a pickle cheese (from 100 to 150 grams), a little lemon juice, a couple of dried tomatoes, olives, a mustard spoon, sea salt, a couple tablespoons of germinated wheat seeds. First mix the ingredients for refueling. Mustard (it is better to take a grain), lemon juice and olive oil should stand a little. Sea salt is better not to add to the dressing, but sprinkle it with salad on top. If you take the usual cookery, then it is better to mix it with mustard and butter. If you chose a green salad, wash its leaves, shake the water carefully and place on the plates. Then lay the remaining ingredients on them and water the dressing. If you prefer coriander or dill, cut them together with tomatoes. Chop the cheese, eggs, olives. Fisalis leave whole or cut in half (by the way, in this salad it can be replaced with cherry tomatoes). Lastly, put the sprouted wheat. It can be replaced with pine nuts to increase caloric content. In any case, this dish will turn out to be full, original and very useful. If you mix the physalis with an equal number of cucumbers, add carrots, onions, garlic and spices to taste, and then pour the marinade, then you will get a wonderful snack for the winter holidays.

Sweets with emerald berries

If the cleansed physalis is covered with an equal amount of sugar, pour a little water, boil for 10 minutes. With the addition of cinnamon, and then boil with citric acid for two hours, you will get an excellent jam. Very well this berry is suitable as a component of fruit cakes, and also as an ornament for them.
