Femoral hernia: exacerbation, first aid

Femoral hernias manifest tumoral protrusions and pains in the thigh area. Symptoms can be the following:

• Appearance of protrusion of a small size between the thigh and groin, disappearing in the prone position.

• Painful sensations in the upper zone of the thigh, which increase with changing weather, physical activity, walking.

Diagnostics

With these symptoms, the patient will need:

1. Survey at the surgeon.

2. Gerniography - introduction into the abdominal cavity of a specific polar substance for the study of hernia.

3. X-ray of large intestine.

4. Ultrasound of the ovaries, bladder, hernia protrusion.

How does the disease occur?

Femoral hernias develop gradually. First of all, tingling pain occurs in the areas where the hernia begins to form. Gradually, painful symptoms begin to build up and interfere with the moment of movement. After a while, between the hip and the groin, a protrusion develops that grows during exercise and disappears at rest. With the passage of time, the formation increases, becomes round or oval in shape, often there is no possibility to direct it into the abdominal cavity.

Recoverable hernia

Correct femoral hernia - a protrusion, which itself disappears with a slight pressure on the hands, in a horizontal position, at rest.

Irreversible hernia

An invasive hernia is called a hernial protrusion, which does not change shape and size, or is somewhat diminished by pressing on it or at rest.

Exacerbations

• Pinched femoral hernia.

• Inflammation of the hernia.

• Coprostasis, which occurs when stool is stale in the large intestine.

Emergency help

Help may be required if the femoral hernia is pinched, if there are manifestations of nausea, vomiting, blood in the feces; If defecation disappears and the gases escape; In the scrotum or groin, the pain intensifies; Hernia non-management with a slight depression.

Causes of the femoral hernia

The femoral canal as such does not exist, its formation occurs only when a femoral hernia occurs. The protrusion of the hernia occurs in the femoral canal inside the femoral vein. Through its external passage the hernia protrudes into the subcutaneous tissue of the anterior thigh area. Femoral hernia in women are found most often due to the peculiarities of the anatomical structure of the pelvis. Its width causes large sizes of permissible weak zones under the inguinal ligament and minimal reliability of connective tissue.

Possible causes of risk

• Hereditary subtilty of connective tissue of the abdominal wall in children under one year;

• rapid weight loss;

• trauma to the abdominal wall;

• Scars after operations;

• paralysis of the nerves.

• physical overvoltage;

• difficulty urinating;

• constipation;

• a prolonged cough.

Prevention

• Always wear a bandage during pregnancy;

• Healthy food;

• train the abdominal muscles;

• treat diseases of the urinary system and gastrointestinal tract;

• Stop smoking.

How the femoral hernia is treated

Treatment is possible only in a hospital by surgical method.

1. Classical operations in femoral hernia - this plastic tissues of local significance. It consists in reducing the defect of the femoral canal with the use of a synthetic non-absorbable thread, in which the patient's own tissues are used.

2. Plastic, in which synthetic prostheses are used - the prosthesis can be placed in front of the peritoneum, and the femoral canal is not reduced.
