Cystitis in children

What do you think is the most common disease in children? Of course, in the first place - SARS. But cystitis in children is located in second place.

Cystitis is an inflammation of the bladder, which is accompanied by pain during urination (the peak of soreness occurs at the end).

Cystitis in children occurs in different ages, even in infants! Most often in this case, "blame" the dirty diapers, which did not change in time. Boys suffer from cystitis more often up to a year, then in most cases - girls. This pattern is due to the anatomical features of the structure of the urethra of girls and boys: in girls it is shorter and wider, located near the vagina and rectum.

From the very beginning, a child's cystitis disease can not bother him. Only later there is itching and redness. In the absence of manifestations, one can suspect this disease from the excretions remaining on the undergarment.

Boys suffer from cystitis extremely rarely. Usually it arises as a satellite of the underlying disease, that is, it is secondary. Congenital anomalies of the structure of the genitourinary system (for example, phimosis) can be its causes.

If cystitis develops in children, the treatment should be started immediately, and before that it is to be convinced of the accuracy of the diagnosis, since it is cunning: more than a dozen urological diseases with similar symptoms may be hidden under his mask.

For accurate diagnosis it is necessary to pass an urine test and conduct an ultrasound examination of the bladder. Cystitis in children occurs with five symptoms:

• Frequent urge to urinate.

• Sharp pain when trying to go to the toilet "in a small way."

• With a small portion of urine.

• Muddy color and sharp unpleasant smell of urine.

• Complaints of pain in the lower abdomen.

As a rule, with acute cystitis, the temperature does not rise. Be careful: if it changes, kidney damage is possible!

What are the causes of cystitis? Many people think that its cause is hypothermia. However, hypothermia is only a provocative factor. The immediate cause is an infection that can penetrate the ascending path (from the urethra) or the descending (from the kidneys). Infectious agents irritate the mucous membrane, which leads to an increase in the frequency of its contractions - the child intolerably wants to go to the toilet. The frequency of urge and intensity of pain is directly proportional to the degree of inflammation. In the vast majority of cases (80%), cystitis in children is caused by E. coli.

To treat this pathology, the doctor appoints uroseptics. The drug is selected depending on the severity of the disease and age. For pain relief, analgesics, antispasmodics (you can use both tablets and candles) are used. The child must comply with bed rest during the first days of illness. After the subsiding of pain, it is necessary to provide the baby with a copious drink to prevent the stagnation of urine and prevent the microorganisms from developing in it. It is useful to drink beverages with antiseptic action: mors from cowberry or cranberry, infusions and herbal medicinal herbs. You can also give a slightly alkaline mineral water: it has anti-inflammatory properties and antispasmodic properties.

After 7-10 days, the cystitis in children passes. If the pain and problems with the toilet have disappeared before, then never stop taking the pills, as the cystitis, pausing, will pass into a new exacerbation.

In children, it is easy for cystitis to cause kidney problems: pyelonephritis usually occurs, which is difficult to treat, and also requires long-term therapy.

Closely monitor the behavior of children, this will allow you to suspect the first manifestations of cystitis, and also help to avoid serious complications.
