Self-identification - that's what at one time isolated a man from the animal world, made him special and put him at the head of modern reality. The definition of yourself as a person or person belonging to a class, or, for example, holding certain beliefs, led to the realization of the need to express your "specialness", which found the most diverse incarnations around the world.

Types of self-determination

The tendency to isolate oneself from the crowd was, in fact, started almost in the Stone Age - with the need to differentiate the territory, the mining or members of various communities. Different color schemes used when drawing a special pattern on the body, spoke of belonging to a particular tribal organization. Over time, other phenomena began to play a similar role: specific hair weaving, special wards, unique clothes, tattoos, rings on the neck or, for example, stretched out in a special way the lobes of the ears. Some African tribes living far from civilization have still preserved traditions, the beginning of which was laid in immemorial times.

The most common way to identify at the moment are flags. Each country, county or region has its own heraldry, and any football fan will be able to determine the favorite team by its flag.

The meaning of the flags

Color pieces of canvas, used since ancient times as a kind of markers, is not only a way to indicate involvement in a particular genus, country, team or social movement. This is the simplest way of conveying information, invented by mankind.

On the flag of every noble family there used to be certain symbols, paintings, with which even the most illiterate person could learn basic information about the family. The rudiments of this phenomenon have been preserved in the flags of countries. The blue-yellow flag of Ukraine, for example, conveys information about the numerous fields of the country, located mainly in the steppe zone. Fifty stars on the American flag transmit information about the number of states, and thirteen horizontal strips - about the British colonies that later formed the United States.

Any drawings, symbols and color schemes are of extreme importance in such cases. The famous rainbow flag is not an exception.

Modern interpretation

Our world is characterized by the alteration of something to match the events taking place. Did not pass this fate and the rainbow flag. If we conduct a global social survey to determine the meaning of this symbol, an absolute majority will indicate a link with sexual minorities.

The rainbow flag today really became a certain way of identifying people who resorted to sex change surgery and those who have non-traditional orientation. Often it can be found on the appropriate parades or as an accessory that emphasizes the owner's peculiarity.

Thus, today the rainbow flag is clearly associated with people with the LGBT community, and in most of the world this does not cause either bewilderment or discontent.

Roots in antiquity

It is quite obvious that the coloring of this symbol was borrowed from the surrounding nature, namely a phenomenon such as a rainbow familiar to mankind from time immemorial and described not only in the Bible, but also in all kinds of pagan tracts preserved.

For many people, the rainbow remains today a symbol of transfiguration, rebirth and proximity to the divine beginning. For the Bundshu during the Peasants' War, the rainbow flag meant hope, change and a brighter future. And the famous German reformer Thomas Münzer identified the seven-colored emblem with the symbol of the Eternal Divine Union.

The rainbow flag, the meaning of which constantly changed, obeying the spirit of the times, experienced many transformations and transformations.

Peace - the world

More familiar to modern humanity, the meaning of this symbol was determined in the early sixties of the twentieth century. If you ask any representative of that era about what the rainbow flag means, he will answer that it is a sign of the desire for peace and tranquility. In its current form, this banner was created by the famous Italian pacifist Aldo Kapitini.

The established value then remains to this day, a confirmation of which took place in 2003, during the war in Iraq. At that time, every Italian could tell with confidence what the rainbow flag means: the seven-color emblems were then posted on virtually every balcony as a call for an immediate cessation of hostilities.

The peculiarity of the "world flag"

It is noteworthy that during this period the colors on the canvas were arranged in the reverse order - from purple to red, and the emblems were decorated with the corresponding inscriptions: Pace, Peace, Paix or Shalom, which literally translated as "Mir".

The Hippy Heritage

Representatives of this subculture, although they used the rainbow flag, the movement for peace was not considered its sole purpose. It's no secret that the hippies were absolute pacifists, but in their view the seven-colored emblem symbolized, rather, friendliness, love and tolerance.

By and large, today's sexual minorities have borrowed this interpretation, making the rainbow flag their emblem. Nevertheless, the seven-colored banners underwent a certain transformation: first, the eighth rose was added to the usual colors, and then the number of shades was reduced to six (blue and previously added pink disappeared from the spectrum).
