Faculty "International Relations": professions. What specialty do they receive after graduating from the faculty?

"All the work is good, choose the taste ..." Remember, this is how the line from the children's poem sounds? But there are a number of specialties, one of which causes us trembling and respect for those who are engaged in this direction. A doctor, a firefighter, an astronaut are our first childhood dreams. It seems very exciting, and most importantly - it is necessary to treat and save people. And sometimes, from the sphere of employment, it is so romantic and mysterious ... Here, for example, is international relations. Professions related to diplomacy are secular receptions, negotiations, permanent business trips abroad ... This is how it seems to a person far from this specialty.

Romance

In all ages, work in foreign embassies was the most honorable, but at the same time, the most dangerous. After all, if there was a feud between countries, diplomats were the first to be under attack.

Of course, the modern world is much more humane, and the economic, production and other mutual relations of states are becoming wider with each passing day. And not always everything goes smoothly and "like clockwork". But from this they become even more interesting - international relations. Professions are diverse, requiring knowledge in many areas of activity, always attract people of extraordinary. And that's why almost everyone wants to "study for a diplomat".

Specialties

And yet, what kind of "International Relations" course does the profession offer? What will this give the graduate in the future? Those who are really going to build a career in the field of diplomacy, it is necessary to determine the choice of a particular profession. After all, the professions connected with international relations are very diverse. This is the world economy, and regional studies, and applied informatics in the field of international relations. Narrow-profile universities can also offer foreign economic activities or socio-cultural services and tourism, linguistics, etc.

In addition, within the regional studies, for example, there are such opportunities for the direction of education:

  • Europe;
  • North America;
  • Asian-Pacific area;
  • Near East;
  • Africa;
  • Baltic countries;
  • CIS;
  • Individual countries in each region.

Actually, we see that sometimes "at the exit" we get very narrow (although this is a very large concept - international relations) profession. What is it - a competitive advantage or a way to unemployment? Professionals unequivocally favor the first - the deeper the young specialist has studied one direction, the more he has made efforts to develop a rare language, the higher his chances in the labor market.

Complexity and uniqueness

Training specialists in the field of "International Relations" (the professions here are very different) requires thorough knowledge not only of theory but also of applied disciplines. It is not enough to simply memorize historical events and dates; It is necessary to draw appropriate conclusions about their significance. It's not enough to talk about the need for mutually beneficial cooperation, we need to be able to accurately determine the points of contact and justify our proposals. The profession of "international economic relations" also requires serious knowledge on macroeconomics and the peculiarities of foreign economic interstate relations.

Language training

In addition, students need to learn more and several foreign languages. After all, the opportunity to communicate without an interpreter-interpreter avoids misunderstandings, and it is often faster to find common ground for the interests of negotiators.

Imagine, MGIMO is marked by the Guinness Book of Records as a university with the maximum amount of teaching state foreign languages. There you can find a teacher in one of 50 languages, including rare European and Oriental. Agree that unique knowledge makes experts irreplaceable in their field. And they can work not only in Russia, but also build a career in foreign companies.

In addition to language training, international relations (the profession of a diplomat and an economist with knowledge of foreign economic activity, for example) require deep knowledge of the development of the chosen region. This is very interesting, on the one hand, but also extremely difficult - on the other. After all, to be imbued with the problems of a country, one must very much want it. Only if there is internal motivation can we talk about successful education in such an area as international relations.

Professions, the description of which we are interested in today, is an important and, most importantly, a responsible component of the life of the state in the world community. Apparently, therefore, international experts are so valued at all times.

Foreign Regional Studies

This is one of the areas of student training offered by the Faculty of International Relations. The profession of diplomats and embassy employees is received here. Here the cadres are also trained for work in the Foreign Ministry.

The training of students on this program has been going on for a very long time. For the first time in MGIMO, for example, such a branch earned in 1943. Therefore, we can say with confidence about the "rolled-in" training program. But, of course, modern life is much more dynamic than the one that was 60, and even 70 years ago. Therefore, programs are regularly adjusted and modified. Practitioners who have worked for more than one year in a foreign business trip are constantly involved in teaching.

Narrow profile - does not mean lack of opportunities

Graduates-regionalists who have passed the direction of "international relations" (professions whose salary is much higher than the average for the state) find work much easier than their colleagues with a more general education. This is due to the fact that students master rare languages and have a profound knowledge of the situation in the "beloved" point of the globe. And this means that there are fewer of them, and they are more in demand than specialists of a wide profile with knowledge of English, German and French.

And another note. Sometimes in higher education institutions in the direction of "International Relations" professions related to foreign region studies are called "diplomacy and politics of foreign countries". When submitting documents, it is necessary to find out exactly which training program is involved.

Internationalists

The second direction at first glance always seems more prestigious and more interesting - actually "international relations" (professions, universities usually give their list, are very interesting, but do not have sufficient concentration on any one nuance). These are the so-called specialists of a wide profile.

In the preparation of such students there are no subjects on the history, economy or culture of any one country. Here, rather, work is under way to study global issues of development of mutual relations in the world. For example, the differences in the whole regions (East-West) are studied, the activities of international funds and organizations are examined, etc. In addition to familiarizing themselves with the traditions of Russian diplomacy, foreign practices are also being studied. This also applies to language training: students master the traditional set of European languages.

In short, after graduation, young specialists can devote themselves not only to the work in the Foreign Ministry, but also to other state or non-governmental structures. The graduates have quite good prospects, for which they should try, realizing their desire to enter the faculty of International Relations. Professions (the salary of a beginner specialist, perhaps, is not large) can be claimed by companies that are not directly connected with diplomacy.

Linguists

Professions connected with international relations do not always presuppose a diplomatic career. Receiving education in this area, the young man learns two or three foreign languages. And this is a direct way to the referents, referents-translators, managers of public relations in foreign companies, etc.

The training program usually includes not only the linguistic component, but also the economy, and records management, and information technology. That is, all the basic knowledge that may be needed in future work.

Among other things, referents and translators receive an excellent opportunity to travel around the world. International corporations are obliged to take part in all sorts of forums, symposia, conferences, etc. And this means that small but multifaceted overseas business trips are guaranteed. If this perspective can be realized by narrow specialists only during the holiday (roughly speaking, they can be "shined" by a long trip to the region that was the object of study), then the linguists combine the useful with the pleasant one.

Internship

What else gives training in the direction of "International Relations"? What professions require practical skills while studying? Here the answer is simple: all without exception. Most often, universities have agreements with various state and commercial enterprises on the internship of students.

Large and well-known universities conduct training in the field of "International Relations". Professions (colleges in Krasnoyarsk with budget places, 2014 statistics very clearly illustrate this) give an opportunity to study abroad in the selected region. This is especially important for those who receive the specialty "Foreign Regional Studies". After all, even three months in the country you are studying will do wonders: the language barrier will be overcome , the psychology of the local people will become clear, rituals and cultural traditions will cease to seem "savage" (of course, if it concerns Africa or some Asian countries where philosophy Life is fundamentally different from the usual).

Independent work

But even those who have not been fortunate enough to become a student of a prestigious university, there are many opportunities to develop their careers at the time of training. Every year many open meetings are held with official representatives of diplomatic corps of different countries. All sorts of conferences and symposiums, evenings of national culture, etc. are constantly being organized. Actively participating in such events, you can get many useful and, most importantly, practical skills.
