Dogs of Moscow watchdog: photos, nature, content and responses of dog breeders

In each country there are national breeds of dogs. In Russia, the Russian guard and sentry species include the Central Asian, Caucasian, South Russian shepherds, the black Russian terrier and the Moscow watchdog. We will talk about the last breed today.

History of the breed

Unlike many dogs, the history of these animals is devoid of any mysteries and secrets. However, the Moscow watchdog appeared quite interesting. This dog was withdrawn by special order of state authorities.

After the end of the Second World War in the USSR, there was an urgent need for the restoration of official dog breeding. By that time, many animals were threatened with extinction. Soviet amateur cynologists in the most difficult conditions of destruction could not independently accomplish this task. Therefore, this mission was entrusted to the cattery Krasnaya Zvezda, located in the Moscow region.

Before the military specialists-cynologists had a difficult task - to create a new breed that would unite good protective qualities, unquestioning obedience to man, quick learning. Moreover, she had to become unpretentious in care, the constitution is quite powerful, but at the same time mobile and active.

For breeding work, Caucasian shepherds and St. Bernards were selected. In addition, the blood of Newfoundland, a German shepherd, a Russian peggy hound, a Russian dog greyhound was added. The work was extremely difficult, since it is difficult to adjust the crossbreeding. Despite the difficulties, the cynologists coped with the task positively.

As a result of collective creativity, the native breed, the Moscow watchdog, was bred. Its first representatives (at that time still having the status of cross-breeding) were shown at the Moscow exhibition in 1950.

They were dogs from the same litter, which were born from the sheepdog of the Caucasian Ash and St. Bernard Barry. These animals already had common signs of the future breed. This work of dog handlers was not completed. They wanted the new breed to become recognizable and original, in order to be different from the ancestors.

The selection process was completed in the middle of the last century. Then there was a breed of Moscow sentry. The very first standard appeared in 1958.

Further work on improving the breed was carried out by specialized clubs and amateur dog breeders. The Moscow watchdog, the photo of which we placed in our article, officially received confirmation of the status in accordance with the approved standard in 1985. After seven years (1992), it was somewhat modified. True, according to fans of the breed, far from the best. In 1998, it was added several more additions.

Moscow watchdog - description of the breed

A massive dog with a strong bone structure and well-developed musculature is the Moscow watchdog. Photos do not convey the proper impression of the power of this animal.

The body is slightly elongated, the limbs are large, long and straight. Growth at the withers on the average - 78 cm (males) and 73 cm (bitches), with the upper limits of growth does not exist, but the dogs are more valued. Easiness of a constitution, insufficient massiveness - serious defects.

Physical data

The Moscow watchdog has a rough type of addition. The animal is active, despite the massive physique, has a bulky, developed musculature. The head is large, proportional to the body, this allows us to say that the dog is composed harmoniously.

Cheeks and occipital protuberance are powerful, the skull part is slightly longer than the muzzle. Lips are large and dry, not falling below the jaw. Broad forehead, eyes of rather small size, framed by pigmented eyelids. Small triangular ears are located slightly above the eye line. The edge of the ear with the hair is quite tight against the cheekbone.

The Moscow watchdog has a distinctly expressed withers and a muscular neck. She has a straight back, a powerful, forward rib cage and a tight tight stomach. The tail is high. In a calm state, the dog drops it down. The entire body is covered with stiff hair with a well-developed undercoat.

Despite the fact that in accordance with the standard, a Moscow guard dog should have straight hair, if it is slightly wavy, it is not a blemish.

Character

When breeding this breed breeders set a goal to grow a dog with a kind and gentle character in relation to the owner and vigilant and aggressive towards a stranger. I must admit that the cynologists decided to set the task with brilliance. Today we can say with confidence that the nature of the Moscow watchdog is a mixture of opposites. With his family, this is a friendly and even affectionate bear cub. Children are very fond of playing with him (if they are family members), and he will never harm them.

Going out into the street, he instantly turns into a formidable guard. From the side of the dog reminds of an angry bear. His menacing roar and awesome appearance will not cause doubts - this beast will not compliment the strangers (including children), so you should take the dog out for a walk only in a muzzle and on a leash.

Color

The breed standard assumes a two-suited color. It predominates in animals in the south of the country. Most often there is a reddish-brown, animals with a black-red, white-red color are often born. The dog's breast is always covered with white hair.

Puppies of the Moscow watchdog

These kids quickly get used to the new house, its schedule, the owners. Before you start such a complex breed, we advise you to weigh well the pros and cons. Think about whether you can handle this giant. Will you be able to combine power and tranquility in relation to your pet, which has a strong character. Can you treat with respect for his vivid personality.

It is not necessary to get a Moscow watchdog for older people, adolescents. The owner with a gentle character can not cope with the Muscovite. It is necessary to know that by the age of six months the puppy will begin to try to occupy his own and, as a rule, the leading position in the family (flock). At this tender age, the average kid weighs 40 kg with a height of 70 cm, so the strong and powerful hand of the leader of the pack will be just necessary in order to keep their positions.

This dog like no other needs early socialization and training. If you do not do this at the tenderest age, then by one and a half years, the adjustment of the behavior will be almost impossible.

With a dog living in a courtyard or aviary, you can not limit communication only during feeding. It is necessary to talk with her, take her out for walks.

Like all the arboreal, the Moscow watchdog is growing up to a year and a half. At the age of three years the animal is considered fully formed.

To ensure that a healthy and beautiful animal has grown from a Moscow watchdog puppy, it must be well fed with balanced feeds, spend a lot of time walking, not limiting it in movement.

Education and training

Many cynologists know that even from the smallest dog, with an illiterate upbringing, a real house tyrant grows up, and mistakes in the upbringing of such a giant as the Moscow watchdog can turn into far more serious troubles.

From puppyhood, the animal must know its place in the house, in direct and figurative senses. It must learn the command "It's impossible!", Which under no circumstances can not fail. Despite the late maturation, do not postpone training with the puppy for later. Begin them from the first days of the appearance of the baby in the house.

First, try to find out which reactions prevail in the dog, what physical abilities it has. Only based on the received data, you can start working with the dog. Owners of these animals need to know that before the year of the Moscow watchdog, large physical activities are contraindicated. This is explained by the continued growth of bones.

Maintenance and care

It is more preferable to keep a Muscovite outside the city - these animals love nature and develop in such conditions.

The dog needs a regular (at least 3 times a week) combing the wool. To this procedure the animal should be accustomed from the first days of life, then in adulthood your pet will treat it as something ordinary.

Otherwise, these dogs are unpretentious. Excellent feel in the summer heat, and in severe frosts.

Moscow watchdog - the price

On average, the cost of the puppy from the breeders is 15 thousand rubles. In nurseries, the prices are slightly higher - 20 thousand rubles.

Dog breeders' opinions

The Moscow watchdog, which is highly controversial, can only be grown and educated by an authoritative, intelligent, strong and sociable person.

The protective qualities of this dog do not cause any complaints from the owners, but many complain about the difficulties in education, the obstinacy of the animal and its desire for an indispensable leadership in the family.
