As a result of collective creativity, the native breed, the Moscow watchdog, was bred. Its first representatives (at that time still having the status of cross-breeding) were shown at the Moscow exhibition in 1950.

They were dogs from the same litter, which were born from the sheepdog of the Caucasian Ash and St. Bernard Barry. These animals already had common signs of the future breed. This work of dog handlers was not completed. They wanted the new breed to become recognizable and original, in order to be different from the ancestors.

The selection process was completed in the middle of the last century. Then there was a breed of Moscow sentry. The very first standard appeared in 1958.

Further work on improving the breed was carried out by specialized clubs and amateur dog breeders.
