Childhood and family

September 2, 1988 in Kiev in the family Ovcharovyh son Dmitry was born. They were very sports chetoy, father Michael - the winner of the championship of the USSR in table tennis, mother Tatyana - the trainer. When the son was 4 years old, the Ovcharov family moved to Germany, to the town of Tundern. Here little Dima begins to train under the guidance of his father.

Beginning of international career

In 2000, Ovcharov Sr. began coaching at the local table tennis team TSV Schwalbe Tündern. She at that time played in the 4th power division, and by 2005 the team led by the Ukrainian coach went to the first Bundesliga. In the same year Ovcharov Dmitry begins to play in the father's team and becomes one of the leaders.

In 2006, Dmitry received a call to the national team of Germany. His first games fell on the qualifying match of the European Championship against Romania. Dmitry confidently won in two matches of singles. Then came the European Championships, held in Serbia. The German national team at that tournament got "gold" in the team classification, and "bronze" in singles received Dmitry Ovcharov. Table tennis, worth mentioning, is in Germany almost as popular as football. Therefore, Dmitry immediately got an army of fans.

Olympiad-2008

Germany at the Olympics fell into one group with Canada, Croatia, Singapore. As a result of the group stage, the Germans with Dmitry Ovcharov made up the semi-finals. In the semi-finals of Germany defeated the team of Japan. The country of the rising sun was defeated, and the Germans reached the final.

The Chinese became rivals of the Germans in the finals, defended their title of the best team in the world and took away their "gold". Well-played for the team Ovcharov suffered a fiasco in singles. His performances ended there at the 1/8 finals. After the Beijing Olympics, thanks to the success in the team, Dmitry rose to 19th place in the world ranking.

Between the first and second Olympiads

After the Olympic Games in Beijing Ovcharov Dmitri together with the German national team wins bronze medals of the World Cup. In 2010, the German national team becomes the silver medalist of the World Championship. At the end of the same year Dmitry Ovcharov became the champion of the singles category of the European Super Cup. In 2011, Ovcharov and the German national team added another bronze medal to the World Cup. After this competition Dmitry got the right to participate in the Olympic Games in London.

London Olympics

Before the start of the Olympic Games in London, the German national team took part in the World Cup, which ended in second place for it.

Tennis in Taiwan - the game is not very popular, but table tennis is a discipline in which Taiwanese athletes won many peaks. Having beaten a worthy opponent, Dmitry got a deserved "bronze". As part of the team also managed to win the third place. At the end of 2012, Dmitry also excelled at the club level. "Torch - Gazprom", playing in the composition with Dmitry Ovcharov, conquers the European Super Cup.

In 2013, the athlete submits to the European Championships in singles. In the finals, Ovcharov met with team-mate Samsonov. This tournament brought Dmitry the 6th championship in the national team.

At the European Championships in 2015, Ovcharov managed to defend his last year's title. In the final, Dmitry successfully fought against the Portuguese Marcus Freitas, and the team again won a silver medal. The next major tournament of that year was the European Games in Baku. At these competitions, Dmitry became the winner and, in addition to the gold medal, was eligible to participate in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Club career

Table tennis is primarily an individual sport, in which personal achievements in international tournaments are valued. However, in this sport there is also a club career. Dmitry Ovcharov started his club career in 2005 at the club "Tündern", which was headed by his father Michael. In 2007 Dmitri's transfer to Borussia from Düsseldorf takes place. In 2009 Ovcharov left to play for the Belgian Royal Villette Charleroi. In 2011, the Orenburg Fakel-Gazprom signs a contract with Dmitry Ovcharov.

Personal life

Dmitry met his wife, Jenny Melstrom, when they were 15 years old. Jenny, too, was engaged in youth table tennis, and the acquaintance with Dmitry happened just at the competitions. After 3 years, Dmitry and Jenny met again at the competitions in Prague and since then began to meet. And on July 5, 2014, the couple played a wedding in the town of Bergisch Gladbach.
