Corrie Sanders. Life after death

In the history of boxing, there are not so many professional boxers who come from South Africa, who managed to become world champions. And already outstanding athletes in the heavyweight category and generally can be counted on the fingers. In this article we will talk about a man who could climb to the top of the world boxing. His name is Corry Sanders.

Biographical information

Cornelius Johannes Sanders (this is the full name of our hero) was born on January 7, 1966 in Pretoria, South Africa. From an early age he was a great sports lover. As a teenager, he went water-skiing, played golf and rugby. However, in the end, after all, he chose boxing. In many ways this choice was made possible by the father of the guy, who in his time was himself a boxer.

Amateur career

In the amateurs Corrie Sanders stayed long enough. He was able to win the national championship in all age divisions, due to which he was considered the strongest amateur boxer of South Africa in the mid-1980s. In total, the athlete spent 191 duel in amateur. In 180 battles he was able to win. To great regret, Corrie never spoke at major international tournaments, because sanctions were imposed on his country by the UN.

Career in the pros

In 1989, Corrie Sanders turned completely into professionals. For this he had to leave the service in the police, where he had worked for five years before. As time showed, he made the right choice.

The debut on the Profiling for the South African came on April 2, 1989. The distinguishing features of the style of the fighter can be attributed to his powerful left hand and excellent hand speed. All this allowed him to become a real puncher. However, sometimes the boxer was too addicted and forgot about the defense, because of what he often missed a lot and quickly got tired, as he always tried to knock out his opponent. In general, it can not be said that Corrie Sanders was reverent for his career, as he did not often perform, did not seek for titles and at times struggled in poor physical shape. Already in the first year as a professional, he had five fights and won in all.

Speeches in the USA

In 1993, Corrie Sanders, whose biography is interesting to many today, was able to prove himself well before the captious American audience. For half a year he was able to win three times, and among his opponents were quite serious fighters, including Bert Cooper who was in the battles in his time with Forman, Bow, Mercer, Holyfield, Moorer.

First defeat

In early 1994, the South African broke into the nines and two more rivals. They started talking about him as a future contender for the world title. But in a battle with the straightforward and not too technical Nate Tubbs, he unexpectedly lost, and ahead of schedule. The whole blame was the excessive pressure of Corrie, who in one of his attacks was carried away and forgot about the defense, conceding the strongest blow to meet.

But still Sanders was able to rehabilitate, after a succession of successful fights for himself and proving his prospects in the professional ring.

First belt

November 15, 1997 took place a duel for the title of world champion by the version of WBU. Opponent Corrie was made by the most experienced American Ross Puyurty.

The battle itself was, as predicted, dictated by a South African who beat all the twelve rounds of an opponent, checking his jaw for strength. Piuritti also hoped that Corey would get tired and could not adequately defend himself. As a result, Sanders won the referee's decision. Prior to the beginning of 2000, Corrie spent only three defenses of his belt, going into the ring once a year.

Loss of belt

On May 20, 2000, the former policeman defended his title in a battle against Hasim Rahman. The duel was very bright and spectacular. Sanders fought in his usual manner, forcing Rahman to withstand his onslaught with difficulty. In the third round, Hasim did not even get knocked down. It all went to the fact that the American had to lose, but the outcome of the battle was sad for Corrie. In the seventh three-minute race after a long, multi-attack attack from Rahman, the South African was knocked out.

Fight with the Ukrainian

On March 8, 2003, the Klitschko-Corry Sanders duel took place. From the very beginning of the fight, the challenger tried in every possible way to hit the champion with his favorite blow to the left. Such activity led to the fact that already in the first round, Vladimir was twice knocked down. The break did not allow the Ukrainian to fully recover and in the second three-minute Sanders sent him to a knockout. This victory was the most sensational event in the boxing world of that year.

Revenge of the brother

April 24, 2004 Sanders dropped another test in the ring in the face of Vitali Klichka. For the first three rounds, Corrie fought aggressively with the Ukrainian, but he showed maximum of his vigilance and accuracy. As early as the fourth tri-minute, it became obvious that Corrie was losing her strength very quickly and became slow. As a result, in the eighth round after a long beating, the South African lost a technical knockout.

End of life

After the defeat of Vitali Corry Sanders, whose fights have always been very spectacular, he fought a few more fights. But it became clear that this warrior did not have any prospects.

The death of the now legendary South African boxer occurred on September 22, 2012. On that day, he celebrated his nephew's birthday at a restaurant in Pretoria. The robbers burst into the institution and opened fire. Corrie covered his body with his daughter and ordered her to pretend to be dead. One of the thugs' bullets hit Sanders in the stomach, and the second - in the arm. He was taken to the hospital, where he died the next day.

This was the tragic end of the life of a famous person and a former champion named Corry Sanders. They shot him, as it turned out later, three Zimbabweans, who after some time were convicted and sentenced to 43 years of imprisonment each.
