Boxer Boris Lagutin: biography and photos

In the entire post-Soviet space, boxer Boris Lagutin is known. Biography of this athlete contains both ups and downs, but the victories still were much more in his career than defeats. In the sport he came very young and continues to remain in it, albeit indirectly, until now. And at the beginning of the sports career, few believed in him ...

Childhood

Boris Lagutin was born on June 24, 1938 in Moscow. Today it belongs to the category of children of war, because the early years of it fell just for the period of the Great Patriotic War. The family of the future boxer lived on Krasnaya Presnya. In the first days of the war, Father Nikolai Borisovich Lagutin went to the front, and little Boris and his mother and grandmother stayed in their native Moscow. In the evacuation, they were not, and still in the ears of the athlete there is no-no, and there will be a buzz of aircraft and the sound of bursting bombs. Mother Nadezhda Gavrilovna worked as a postman, and her grandmother was a worker in the manufacturing industry.

As a child, Boris Nikolaevich Lagutin looked like other boys. Could sometimes hooligan, fight, tried alcohol and could even smoke sometimes. He also adored court games on a football and hockey field, he was known as a defender of the weak and always tried to be the first and best: whether swimming and diving in the river, riding a horse or any other boyish affair. Fights did not attract him at all.

Coming to sport

Why did boxing choose young Boris as the main occupation? What was it that attracted him to this sport?

We can say that everything turned out by chance. Just once, Borya and his friend saw an announcement about the recruitment to the boxing section and decided to sign up. Of course, such a decision surprised Lagutin family, because he was a boy soft enough and did not show any special fighting qualities ... And Lagutin himself did not at first get excited about training - they seemed too boring to him. In turn, the mentors from the sports club "Wings of the Soviets" also did not see in the hulking, stooping boy this boxer and future champion. But Boris was training with a trainer with the symbolic name Trenin. Victor Mikhailovich really showed himself to be an excellent teacher, trying to mold his sportsman out of his pupil.

In 1957, Moscow hosted the championship in boxing. According to the results of the draw, Boris Lagutin was to fight with Viktor Mednov - participant of the Olympics in Helsinki! In this fight the young athlete showed himself more than worthy, and the coach finally saw in him a promising boxer. And when next year Lagutin "put on the shoulder blades" of the champion of the Soviet Union Yuri Gromov, the last doubts were dispelled.

Being already the champion of Moscow, Boris won the Spartakiad of Nations in 1959, and this achievement opened the way to the Olympic Games of 1960 in Rome.

First Olympics

Although all around it was already clear that Boris Lagutin was a boxer from God, but he had to combine his training in the late 50's with work at a defense enterprise, where he settled himself as an electrical technician after graduating from the Moscow Electromechanical Institute in 1957. In such conditions, it was difficult to prepare for the Olympics, and Lagutin understood perfectly that he, a defense plant employee, might simply not be allowed to go abroad.

But, fortunately, everything went smoothly. The Soviet nomenklatura did not dare to put the sticks in the wheel of a talented sportsman.

And the young boxer of expectations has justified. He managed to reach the semifinals and return home with a bronze medal. In 28 fights Lagutin won and only one point did not reach the triumph in the 29th, the final battle with the American Wilbert McClure.

Formation of corporate style

Back home, Boris Lagutin immediately began training. On the achieved it was impossible to stop, and meanwhile in the Union "worthy" rivals of the "bronze" prize-winner grew up. In the weight category from 67 to 71 kg, together with Lagutin, such athletes as Tregubov, Sobolev, Ageyev, Budman, Koromyslov played ... All of them were considered very promising boxers.

Lagutin needed to get into the national team of the Soviet Union, and he worked for days. For many hours, he "tortured" the pear, then, without interruption to shower and dinner, dragged dumbbells, and then arranged a battle with the shadow.

A brutal, self-defeating school gave its precious fruits. Boris Lagutin, whose biography was already full of brilliant accomplishments, got all the chances for even more significant victories. For four years between the Olympics in Rome and Tokyo, he developed his "corporate" style, which is recognized later in the world. Lagutin was known as a cunning tactician who can skillfully maneuver, easily move around the ring and save energy. The most effective he fought at long range, but on average, and in close combat, few could resist him. All his victorious battles Boris Nikolayevich invariably ended with a branded blow, after which the opponent went to knockout.

A succession of victories

The period from 1960 to 1964 can, perhaps, be called the brightest in the career of a boxer. Boris Lagutin, whose photo did not leave the editorials of sports publications, won everywhere where he participated. During these years, the athlete managed to win the world championship four times and twice - European. Naturally, at the level of the country, Lagutin, too, all four years in a row came out the winner in the championships.

He was the hardest to fight with Viktor Ageyev, one of the strongest rivals. From the outcome of the battle during the championship of the Soviet Union in Khabarovsk depended who will go to the Olympic Games in Tokyo. Boris Lagutin could not allow the years of hard labor training to pass for him in vain, and laid out two hundred percent. He defeated Ageyev. But he said that for the next Olympics - Mexico - Victor will certainly go. Boris Nikolayevich knew very well who was before him and how much potential this young boxer had.

In Tokyo, the Soviet boxer, as, indeed, our entire national boxing team, was not equal. Lagutin brought home his deserved "gold"!

Trying to get out of big sport

After returning from Japan, the "gold" medalist was literally wore in his arms. But there was one thing that could not be understood by Lagutin Boris Nikolaevich: boxing, or rather, The fighting in the ring is the destiny of the young. A little more time will pass, and it will be necessary to look for another use in life ...

At that time, the athlete already had a diploma from the State Institute of Physical Culture and could be engaged in coaching. After a short hesitation, he accepted the offer and began to train the boys. And in parallel I got a second specialty - at the Moscow State University on a biofake. Training went into the background, although Lagutin continued to remain part of the Soviet national team.

It is not surprising that during the next battle he proved himself to be far from being such a brilliant boxer, as all have become accustomed to seeing him. Boris Nikolayevich put the opponent "on the shoulder blades", but did it so "dirty" and unprofessional, that the judges even decided to cancel the results of the battle.

This hurt the self-esteem of Lagutin. He told himself that if he were to leave, it was not a disgrace. And again pushed to the training.

The most expensive title

Despite the fact that more and more battles involving Boris Nikolayevich ended in his defeat, he managed to become the champion of the Soviet Union in 1968. Moreover, he was chosen to participate in the Olympic Games, which took place in the same year in Mexico City.

In the course of his third Olympiad Lagutin again received "gold", having won a victory over the young but very talented Cuban Garbay. This fight is called the legend of Soviet sport one of the most difficult, and the title - the most expensive.

After the completion of the athlete's career

After receiving a diploma from Moscow State University, Boris Nikolaevich Lagutin finally left the ring. First, he took the post of the responsible sports organizer in the Central Committee of the Komsomol, then settled himself deputy chairman of the sports club "Spartacus", which he devoted a segment of life from 82nd to 87th year. His duties on involving children, youth and the elderly in the sports sphere, he performed with pleasure. Under the guidance of Lagutin, sports clubs were created throughout the country: in towns, villages and towns; In factories and factories; In dormitories and even in places not so remote.

For some time, Boris Nikolayevich headed the Boxing Federation of the Soviet Union, and in 1991 created the "Health and Sport" foundation, which later became the head. To this day, this organization is doing everything possible to revive the physical culture and health structure of Russia. His priority task Lagutin and his supporters see working with children and young people.

In 1996, two-time Olympic champion took the post of advisor to the president of the ISS, which closely cooperates with the fund. The International Sports Confederation supports sports initiatives for young people, disabled people and even veterans of the Second World War.

Today Boris Nikolayevich is a frequent guest in the educational institutions of Moscow and other settlements where he tells them about his sports career and the importance of physical culture in the life of a person during meetings with students and students.

Assessments of colleagues and students

The boxer Lagutin is that rare enough case when the huge achievements in sports are combined with high human qualities. Almost all colleagues positively respond to Boris Nikolayevich and note his decency, nobility, tolerance, attentiveness to his neighbor, kindness and ability to support.

And the students say that Lagutin never put himself above his pupils, trying to be on equal terms with them. He answered all questions with pleasure and laid out battles on the shelves. The young coach always enjoyed great prestige.

Boris Lagutin: personal life and family

Many eminent athletes, alas, can not boast of successes in their personal lives. Families break up due to frequent traveling and endless training. But in Boris Lagutin, and in this respect, everything turned out. Together with his wife, Tatyana Petrovna, they managed to create a strong family and raise two wonderful sons - the weather - Peter and Alexander - 1970 and 1971 years of birth.

other hobbies

For a long time, Boris Nikolayevich did not have free time, devoting himself entirely to sports. But today, when there is no such workload, he happily goes fishing, arranges picnics with his family and friends, attends various cultural events. He loves the theater and follows the novelties in the field of dramatic art. Modern cinema does not particularly respect, thinks that the films are being shot too cruel.

Sports achivments

Could anyone have thought in the late 50's that in the face of a boy named Lagutin, Boris boxing would receive a world-class star? Hardly ... But it happened.

Throughout his sports career, he sustained 298 fights and only in eleven of them did not win.

Lagutin is a two-time Olympic champion, and so far none of the athletes of the post-Soviet space has been able to reach this goal.

Among the awards of Boris Nikolayevich there are such prestigious ones as the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, the Order of Friendship of Peoples and many others.

The name of this athlete is inscribed in the history of world and Soviet boxing in gold letters, but he treats his fame a little indulgently and even ironically, not counting it as something significant. It is much more important to be merciful than the famous fighter, the athlete believes.
