Coconut Island - a small piece of paradise on Earth
The islands of Keeling (Cocos Islands) have nothing to do with the computer game Killing Floor (Killing Floor) 2009 release. Despite the similarity of names, they rather represent the opposite things: a nightmare arcade - the embodiment of hell in an industrial society, and 27 tiny coral islands in the Indian Ocean - a small piece of paradise on Earth.
Keeling was incredibly honest to the merchant and so attached to his wife Anne that he once tried to stealthily take her aboard the ship that went on a long voyage. Of course, the woman was removed from the ship (disorder, and a bad sign), the story was handed over to the then monarch, James I. The king was touched, Kilinga was appointed to command the Royal Navy, was given the rank of admiral and the lifelong right to take his wife on any trips with him! So, it seems, and Cocos Islands began to bear the name of Killing quite deservedly.
As for the "nut" name, it is quite understandable: the main occupation of the local population is the cultivation of coconut palm. Coconut and products of its processing have amazing properties. Nut is a powerful aphrodisiac, oil helps with a variety of diseases, including cancer and AIDS, the shell is used in the production of activated carbon and fertilizers. The palm is processed almost completely: both leaves, and trunk, and hair fibers. Flesh is obtained from the dried product - copra - from which many products are made, from margarine to napalm.
Once the Coconut Islands belonged to England, but since 1955 they are subject to Australia. They are divided into two parts: a large atoll North Keeling and many small islets called South Keeling. The local population - Malayans - lives on three islands and hardly exceeds 600 people. At the same time, residents not only grow palm trees and play football, but also serve the airport located in the capital of the West Island and receive tourists.
By the way, it's not the worst way to organize your vacation on the islands. The photos, of course, are far from the original, but they still demonstrate "how beautiful this world is".
